What people consider is good accuracy for a sub 12 air rifle

I think it all depends on what you are trying to achieve!

Personally I can do a less than 10mm group at 25 yards standing using sticks. That goes down to a lot less when im shooting off a bench. I wouldn't know what my group is at 40 yards, but i regularly hit 25mm kills zones at HFT off sticks - so I guess it's less than 25mm! Lol

My aim is to hit targets at HFT, FT and occasionally Benchrest (now that requires some definite 5mm groups to be successful!)

However, if you want to hit tin cans at 10 yards then you dont need a Lothar Walther match barrelled gun, so it's horses for courses.

All,

I came across this old video whilst browsing the latest funny cats vids...seems to indirectly provide the answers I was looking for I think

What IS the best weight of pellet for FT/HFT???

Thanks again to all those who provided advice and opinion. I was inspired by this to do some further chono testing, which provided some encouraging results in the mid 11fps and pointed to the fact I may have not been entering pellet weights correctly into the chrono previously (on a natechrony changing pellet weight info without clearing the current shot string?) When the weather improves I've got a few more pellets types to try for accuracy and precision. What else am I going to do on a rainy day other than weight and sort a new tin of pellets :-)

As already said what do you want it for.. I was shooting rabbits regularly at 40 to 50 yards with my redwolf safari in 177 using mako slugs . I’ve also got a hw100 in.22 which is shooting jsb hades spot on at most ranges from 15 to 40 yards . I wouldn’t go further than 40 yards with the 22 and 50 yards is my max on bunnies with the 177 .I only go for headshots … if you can put pellet on pellet or 5p grouping at 40 yards why want anything else . Just use your field craft if your after live stuff to shoot.
As above its what your happy with and know if your dream is possible,

IMO the best test of accuracy is 25 metre bench rest. Getting anywhere near a score of 250 is to me almost impossible but I know that better shooters than me achieve this and more. Tight groups are OK for setting up a scope and testing pellets and, dare I say, relatively easy to achieve with PCP.

My answer to this oft asked question remains the same as ever - 2MOA is good, 1 MOA is excellent, less than 1MOA is what you really want for BR. All of these consistently.

Without sounding a d#ck shooting anything less than 50 yards with a good quality sub 12 pcp at the range is a waste of pellets...50 to 100 yards is the norm now imo
How do you cope with a 2mph gusting side wind coming through a dip at 25 yards then swirling round?

Pellet on pellet needs to be defined. For me, using 0.177, a 5mm edge to edge group at 40m outdoors is a dream.

At 28m outdoors I have done a 5mm edge to edge once, 6mm a handful of times, 7 to 10mm are more normal for me.

Normally I plink spinners and only shoot groups to test a barrel.
An honest reply!

Not sure I agree with that statement 🤷‍♂️I’m consistently shooting at 100yrds plus …… some of the lads at the range are shooting golfballs at 200 yrds (not me I hasten add)
The word has to be consistency. At 100 yards the slightest bit of wind will put pellets badly sideways.
My experience measuring at 60 yards gives a typical vertical variation in a group of 10 of around an inch with unweighed pellets. 5 will usually get within half an inch vertically. With an expensive scope to range and calculate drop you will at least save a few hundred pellets.

Agt vixen 2 on the knock down reset target 70 yards and a target that was on the electronic shuttle out at 70 yards using my vukcan 2 both outdoors...Next time im up the range I'll get some vids of the spinners at 87 yards being hit consistently and stones on the back bund at 98 yards being hit...
That looks around 2MoA which is very good outdoors at that range
