What Country have you visited that you never want to return to?

I just don’t holidays - full stop. Four days anywhere and I get restless.
Sad to hear such disparaging remarks about Tunisia ( where I’ve never been) as my late nan’s brother Walter Lane is buried in a war grave there having been KIA’d during the Africa Campaign in WW11. (REME)
Born in the East End of London (Bethnal Green), lived in Dagenham, died and buried in a sh*thole called Tunisia - nice. Nan never could tend her brother’s grave it wasn’t doable back then but I’ll never forget her words “ My Wally was lovely I do miss him”.
If he's laid to rest in. Commonwealth War Cemetery, it should be well looked after. So there is that grace

I've visited: Wales, Scotland, France, Belgium, Spain, Greece, Crete, and Brazil.

I'm not claiming to be exceptionally well-travelled by any means, but the only place I would not go back to is France. The reason is very simple:

I went as a schoolboy on a trip to with the French class, to practice speaking. We had to complete a treasure hunt in a town by asking the locals for directions, in French. As 14 year-olds, our French wasn't great, but the sheer disdain with which we were treated by some of the locals put me off for life. Imagine refusing to answer a CHILD'S question and, instead, correcting their grammar whilst looking down your nose.

I'm not that well travelled tbh, I've only been to the US, France & Greece (mainland & Corfu).
France would have to be the winner of least enjoyable for me, they drive like their lives depend on getting in front of you, it's generally run down and dirty & the only good thing is the cheese.
I wouldn't go back there, the Mrs wants to go to Italy next year so I'll report back then.

I drove to St Tropez in 1984 in an Astra GTE with my first wife. Departed three days early and drove non stop back to Romford wondering why I went there in the first place. Enjoyed the driving though, didn’t half give it some clog, no cameras in those days. Saw 127mph on the LCD dash display for a lot of the journey.

In a like holidays from hell type way, where have you been & vowed never to return? For me it has to be Malta & Gozo. We did a week on Gozo, followed by a week at St Pauls bay in Malta, what a place, I couldn't decide if they were building things or knocking them down, the whole place was dirty & dusty & smelt of sewage. I know lots of people love Malta, & perhaps I went to the wrong part, or at the wrong time, but what a s*it hole it was.
Probably wouldn't go back to malta. My missus really didn't like it. Having said that, would visit Valetta again. It is stunning and very unique. Did one day in gozo which we enjoyed as we had a scooter to explore on which we always enjoy. Wouldn't go back to dubai. It's worth seeing what's been built from absolutely nothing but seen it now. Its way too hot and humid and I prefer to be up a mountain

We have friends who live in France, about 30 miles from Poitiers, and they tell us that the amount of local tax you pay on your property is decided by the local mayor and dependent on its (apparent) condition, so they want their property to look run down & ramshackle.

They told me of what seems from the outside to be a rather run down farm near their home, but passing one day when the gates to the yard were open they glanced inside & saw that behind the walls it was like the Palace of Versailles !

However, they still say that in France the best place to hide your money is under the soap. ;)

The French have a reputation for good food and excellent wine.
Whatever they are paying their PR department, it's not enough. Generally, everywhere in Europe I've been to has better of both.

The Italian food is probably the best overall, but you gotta love German attitude to meat and Polish sausages and dumplings. Besides, most of Europe will have dishes from all over the World just like we do here, but the (not so) cosmopolitan French seem to be stuck in the past and haven't embraced the veritable smorgasbord of cuisine of other cultures.

I think you are quite right about French food @Sarge . They have a very high opinion of themselves but the reality is it's nothing special. There is a well know restaurant half an hour away which had reports of food poisoning last year, so that will be one we won't be going to. Fast food doesn't exist, but what has started to appear in large numbers are automated kiosks selling pizza. Now they are not cheap, but popular, which supports my opinion that French food is high on price and low on quality.

Yes, France is really stuck in the past, still thinks it is a major world power and can't yet get its head around the plain fact that the Country is bankrupt through continuous overspending for the last 40 years, currently remaining at 105% with annual interest payments on the debt now well over €50 billion. No idea how things will develop here in the future?

100% of this applies to this country at least as much and probably far more

USA. Visited friends over there many times but they've all left now because of you-know-who.
Didn't like the food anyway.
If they truly felt that way, they did not believe in our system of Gov't. I hope they don't return. We are a republic and the system allows the people to vote every 2 years to elect the people they want to govern the country. I have been here 80 years and, in that time, we have had 14 Presidents and 15 Presidencies. I have not always agreed with the decisions they have made but I have never considered leaving this country because of the President. That is a temporary job!

Not a country but Crete, I've been going to the Greek Islands every year (barring covid) for 30 years, the other half fancied it, so we booked 10 days, utterly disappointed, the only saving grace for us was the stunning Samaria Gorge which was fab.

Unlike a few even if I had the chance I’d never leave England. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. A lot more good than bad. I did a few places in my late teens early twenties especially Central America. Panama, Colombia, Honduras and Costa Rica. Costa Rica best by far spent 2 weeks docked in a place called Golfito. A proper banana port. Aged 19 and been told by the chief officer at 4pm on Friday he didn’t want us till 8am Monday me and the other lad were both Deck Cadets. Shower change and ashore we did come back for an hour to get some more cash but slept above one of the bars as a ladies guest (sounds polite 🤣)
Enjoyed s few places but home was always for me ♥️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
