If he's laid to rest in. Commonwealth War Cemetery, it should be well looked after. So there is that graceI just don’t holidays - full stop. Four days anywhere and I get restless.
Sad to hear such disparaging remarks about Tunisia ( where I’ve never been) as my late nan’s brother Walter Lane is buried in a war grave there having been KIA’d during the Africa Campaign in WW11. (REME)
Born in the East End of London (Bethnal Green), lived in Dagenham, died and buried in a sh*thole called Tunisia - nice. Nan never could tend her brother’s grave it wasn’t doable back then but I’ll never forget her words “ My Wally was lovely I do miss him”.
Probably wouldn't go back to malta. My missus really didn't like it. Having said that, would visit Valetta again. It is stunning and very unique. Did one day in gozo which we enjoyed as we had a scooter to explore on which we always enjoy. Wouldn't go back to dubai. It's worth seeing what's been built from absolutely nothing but seen it now. Its way too hot and humid and I prefer to be up a mountainIn a like holidays from hell type way, where have you been & vowed never to return? For me it has to be Malta & Gozo. We did a week on Gozo, followed by a week at St Pauls bay in Malta, what a place, I couldn't decide if they were building things or knocking them down, the whole place was dirty & dusty & smelt of sewage. I know lots of people love Malta, & perhaps I went to the wrong part, or at the wrong time, but what a s*it hole it was.
We have friends who live in France, about 30 miles from Poitiers, and they tell us that the amount of local tax you pay on your property is decided by the local mayor and dependent on its (apparent) condition, so they want their property to look run down & ramshackle.I'm not that well travelled tbh, I've only been to the US, France & Greece (mainland & Corfu).
France would have to be the winner of least enjoyable for me, they drive like their lives depend on getting in front of you, it's generally run down and dirty & the only good thing is the cheese.
I wouldn't go back there, the Mrs wants to go to Italy next year so I'll report back then.
The French have a reputation for good food and excellent wine.I'm not that well travelled tbh, I've only been to the US, France & Greece (mainland & Corfu).

Why bother? Just charter a small fishing vessel at Dover land at Calais then stroll up the beach hire a car and head for San Tropez.I don't have a passport, so can't leave even if I'd found somewhere preferable to go to

Oops, wrong thread
I can't think I would want to go to any country where the locals are leaving in droves.
I think you are quite right about French food @Sarge . They have a very high opinion of themselves but the reality is it's nothing special. There is a well know restaurant half an hour away which had reports of food poisoning last year, so that will be one we won't be going to. Fast food doesn't exist, but what has started to appear in large numbers are automated kiosks selling pizza. Now they are not cheap, but popular, which supports my opinion that French food is high on price and low on quality.
Yes, France is really stuck in the past, still thinks it is a major world power and can't yet get its head around the plain fact that the Country is bankrupt through continuous overspending for the last 40 years, currently remaining at 105% with annual interest payments on the debt now well over €50 billion. No idea how things will develop here in the future?
If they truly felt that way, they did not believe in our system of Gov't. I hope they don't return. We are a republic and the system allows the people to vote every 2 years to elect the people they want to govern the country. I have been here 80 years and, in that time, we have had 14 Presidents and 15 Presidencies. I have not always agreed with the decisions they have made but I have never considered leaving this country because of the President. That is a temporary job!USA. Visited friends over there many times but they've all left now because of you-know-who.
Didn't like the food anyway.
