In a like holidays from hell type way, where have you been & vowed never to return? For me it has to be Malta & Gozo. We did a week on Gozo, followed by a week at St Pauls bay in Malta, what a place, I couldn't decide if they were building things or knocking them down, the whole place was dirty & dusty & smelt of sewage. I know lots of people love Malta, & perhaps I went to the wrong part, or at the wrong time, but what a s*it hole it was.

The Gambia in 2009... Bags cut open and ransacked of our fishing gear and clothes by airport staff on departure. Held up constantly at 'official' check points by ragtag armed gangs every 10 miles going in land to fish and having to bribe them for onward passage. Having an AK47 pointed in my face when I refused to part with anymore cash.
On taxiing for take off there was a row of ancient DC3 Dakotas at the side of the runway.
Leaving felt very much like the extraction scene from the Wild Geese.
Boarding the plane my son and I were near the back of the queue. I found myself pretending to limp heavily and called out to him.. Alan, for God's sake kill me'
He's called Tom and has never seen the film... Thought I was nuts.
Anyway. Not a return destination for me.

Don't think there's a country that I wouldn't go back to, but there are certainly some places I'd never visit again - worse probably Venice (stinks, over-priced food and accommodation, too many people), Karachi (so much promise, but actually an open sewer and garbage dump), New York (dirty and falling apart in places), and finally Los Angeles (utterly over rated shit hole with a crap airport - best thing about it is the I105 that get's you away from it pretty quickly)

Mostly third world countries for me, poverty and danger along with tropical diseases and food poisoning so not aspire to my idea of a good time

Pretty depressing sights most of the time and the desperation in the locals is catching in some places I have been

Not one to complain but, I probably wouldn't return to Cape Verde - nice place & nice people but, we dodged a bout of food poisoning before we got there, didn't feel great whilst there and I believe it kicked off again after we'd returned.

Sounds picky but, I think I'll stick with Portugal or the Canaries for Winter Sun.

Watched a Simon Reeve documentary and he showed a very different side to the Maldives - pretty grim in reality.

I spent three weeks on Gozo for a summer holiday in my youth ; it is a fond memory.
Valetta, not so much but seemed Ok at the time. St Paul's bay I would have given a miss no problem, we didn't stop in fact.
I hear the place has gone down market quite a bit with hordes of youngsters on 'language trips' in years past, but maybe on top of that you were particularly unlucky.
My memory is of festive fireworks in each village several nights in a row, small but warm beach, turquoise water and caves, and a taste of tomato paste, butter and capers sandwich 🥪 😋.
Venice, in August, crowded with uncouth Asian tourists is not a good memory compared to other times of the year. However I will certainly visit again.

Türkiye never again, constant hassle from shop keepers trying to get you into their shops selling temu top quality items. Then swearing at you when you say no thanks. Also one of the most expensive airports I have ever been too. Also very little seating. 😵‍💫
