Ive a contract to to remove some unwanted animals after dark and lamping isn’t an option. And since Christmas I’ve been milling over digital day night scopes it’s not me but needs must….. So a friend lent me a Hikmicro Alpex and he even put it on the rifle and zeroed ready to go. But instantly I the field I noticed how heavy it made the rifle, especially as I’m not a static shooter so I kind of shelved the job.

But I needed to get it sorted so I’d convinced myself to an Alpex, do the job and sell it. Went into the local to buy one and the owner and got talking about the job and the weight of the scope. He said go thermal and you’ve already got the Hikmicro spotter, the menu is identical apart from the extra zero functions.

Thermal was never on the list, but in my hand the Hikmicro 3.0 was super light. Looked though it wow incredible clarity and user friendly. Went in for digital walked out with thermal. I’ve had it 3 weeks and money well spent as it’s doing the job nicely, but I think I’ll be keeping it.

I'm using NV and a thermal monocular to spot atm and have been for the past 4 years.

Prior was just NV and looking for eye shine and way back when it was a lamp with filters etc

Thermal was a game changer for me not only for spotting but also recovering quarry also, NV is great but some units as you mentioned are heavy and although compared to a lamp it's night and day (no pun intended)

Thermal is completely passive and your target species whatever it maybe has absolutely no clue you are there provided you used good field craft and they don't wind you.

You absolutely made the right choice NV is still great and can get some really good light weight units but the top end thermal kit now is absolutely 🤯

ThermTec Ares 660 Lrf rifle scope
clarity is excellent and doesn’t require frame refresh as often

Pulsar Merger Duo NXP50’s for spotting also has the ability to switch to NV if your in any doubt of your intended target

Have a couple of NV Units Pulsar C50 & HiK Alpex A50T on a couple of setups very clean images with the right ir unit

Pulsar thermal spotter. Fantastic bit of kit if you're stalking/moving spots. Zulu NV. Also a great bit of kit with the LRF and on board calculator

I use a pard 008 LRF. It's no heavier than a scope and is fantastic for air rifle ranges.
This is what I have on my gun and I use a Pulsar Helion XQ38 as my thermal spotter. It works really well for me. Also the Pard 008 seem to be available at a very reasonable price these days.

I use a hikmicro monocular and an ATN Thor, nothing comes to thermal, especially for ratting IMO.

I really only shoot close range nv mostly inside and have tried a few NV scopes, after all I started years back with the n550 then tried a HUD and I then went back to a scope like the pulsar digi and the xt or something then back to an addon as I use the same gun daytime and didn’t like the fixed scope method I then found I kept coming back to the addon method like the 007 even after the 008, ds35 and wraith, a simple addon keeps my familiarity with ret and holds and is great daytime.

I have tried the alpex and it’s just to heavy for me but the image was about the best I’ve looked through, I’m teetering on the edge of the DNT as Im using a .25 and it could help extend my daytime ranges but Im weird and just like glass of a daytime for its ease of use I guess. Plus it’s horses for courses and I’m not shooting big distances out in fields, I have looked through a couple of thermal scopes that the guys shooting the foxes use and yes they are trick bit of kit but £k’s for a scope to shoot rats at 15yds is a bit extreme 😂

I have a Sight + Mark Wraith on my BSA Ultramax .22 which I bought it S/H from a member.

I’m still getting to grips with it but it’s certainly a great bit of kit.

I was going to buy a thermal scope last year UNTIL i had an experience using my thermal spotter spotted the rabbit amongst the vegetation, I couldnt see the full silhouette I put the cross hairs of my nv scope in the right place. I then had a what if moment! Eventually it moved it was somebody's pussy cat!! I am sticking with a Dnt zulus nv!

I use a pard 007 addon,a sightmark wraith 2x16x28 day nightscope,
and a sytong ht70 lrf addon, all good gear.

Hikmicro Lynx10 thermal spotter which use day and night, and Sytong HT66. Both are good value for airguns and nice bits of kit. Only issue I've had with the Sytong is that depth of field is quite short if your stalking rather than set up and waiting at known ranges. It can sometimes be hard to find things I've picked up with the spotter, but maybe me just getting used to it.
