New Pard 007S

Scopes that work well with rear add-ons like the 007 tend to have the following features:
a. IR friendly lens coatings (that eliminates top end brands like Swarovski, Zeiss and Schmidt and Bender)
b. Side focus (parallax) down to 10 yards or less
c. Bigger objective lenses let in more IR so 50mm or larger is usually good although for shorter range work smaller objectives down to 32mm can still work well
d. Low base magnification - x4 or less
e. Top end magnification not more than x20 - you'll never use it
Arguably the best scope for both day and add-on use is the Delta Titanium HD 2.5-15x50 or it's bigger brother witht he 56mm objective
Other brands/models known to work well include:
Meopta Optika 6 3-18x50
Sightron S Tac 4-16x50
Athlon Midas HMR 2.5-15x50
Hawke Sidewinder - most Hawke scopes work well with NV but there are a couple that are not so good but I can't remember which models they are
Stay away from any 6-24, or even worse 8-32 scopes, and fixed magnification scopes
Remember what I said earlier about the 16mm PARD magnifying the reticle and the image?
If you stick an 007 on the back of a x6-24 scope, it immediately becomes an x8-32 scope, that why the best scopes for rear NV add-ons are low base magnification
So, a x2.5 -15 scope becomes x3.3-20 and that retains the wide field of view which is important for being able to locate a target quickly.
Once located, the scope magnification can be increased to make the target appear larger.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't answer your question about the Hawke Compact.
I don't have any personal experience with that particular scope but I know that Ian Blackwood at Blackwood Outdoors who uses the 007 a lot really rates the Hawke Vantage 2-7x32 side focus for air rifle and rimfire ranges

Cheers

Right chaps a few updates on Pard 007s big thank you first of all to Tim at Mc Avoy Guns he has given me a full refund AND BEEN VERY HELP FULL so after a lot or reading testing and taking advice from members on here i have come to the conclusion that the improvements Pard have made to there 007s it is not for my kind of shooting to much built in digital mag for close up rat shooting i did try the 007s on a hawke scope which a friend lent me and a big difference in the image so the Hawke did work better SO what i have decided is to order the 007v 12mm version and a Hawke 3-12x40 Compact I AM SURE THIS WILL BE THE BEST COMBINATION for close RAT SHOOTING what your thoughts advice welcome

Good to hear you're getting there, albeit slowly.

I've got the 007V 12mm on a Hawke 30SF 4-16x44 without any issues, it's accounted for numerous rats, rabbits and squirrels so hopefully this will work for you.

Good luck :)

30sf 4-16x44 is that the compact scope thanks
Yes this is what I've got

I paid £250 delivered for mine a couple of years ago from Melbourne Guns, Wolfman have got them listed at £265, you may find them cheaper if you have a root around on the net

and doe,s the 4x work wel lclose up with 007
To be honest it is probably a bit too much magnification on the rats so the 3-12 is probably the better choice out of the two if it's ratting you intend to use it for.

That said, as Jelly & Sagalout elude to, if you want to focus up really close then you should get the lowest mag scope you can, I just re-position myself if the targets are too close to focus on.

The combination you have ordered is about as good as you're going to get for ratting. You won't be disappointed. Both the Hawke Compact scopes (3-12x40 and 4-16x44) work well but for ratting the 3-12x40 has the edge.

Thanks for your reply i might be getting some where then this night vision job is a night mare :)

Just to kill my curiosity a 008s Pard is that good for air rifle ratting just asking because i see they are advertised as 6x would that be suitable for close up shot not keen on digatal zeroing but something what is playing on my mind and learning what i have been through is it better to use add on for close up shooting thanks

It's advertised as x6.5 base magnification, but it's actually nearer x8 for anyone who needs to wear reading glasses and takes them off to shoot.
There is a lower magnification (x4.5) version available, but I don't think SGC (the authorised importer and distributor) bring them into the UK)
However it can be purchased direct from the PARD website

Cheers
