Ok everyone a big thank you to @Blackcat83 for donating this HW35 .22
This will be the new forum project like last year to be done up for a younger shooter probably to be given/awarded at a forum meet.
Obviously I will hopefully be looking forward to seeing some members to volunteer to help with it restoring etc and tuning.
Pictures in post 9

Anyway quick video going live now and getting linked here

Happy to do a trigger job on it if you want.

White spirit usually shifts tape residue, but I'm wondering why it was bandaged in the first place. A crack or split just there can be a problem!
Can you see anything 'in the flesh'?

There's a nice 35E under all that lot...
Not so sure it’s an E - would need a few more pics, but think it’s the even more scarce L - Luxus walnut.
If the stock is indeed cracked/split - that would need a little skilled repairing. If it’s not, then surface scratching, dents etc etc are relatively easy to remove & restore. Some lovely grain on that.

Wow! That's a really cool figure in that wood, like a very modest fiddleback with those cross-grain streaks.
Whoever gets this in the end is in for a treat.

With those scratches - you'll probably have to remove wood to get rid of them. I'd recommend using a card scraper if you're confident (it's not really that difficult) because you can get a nice smooth finish whilst removing the minimum amount of material and without packing the grain full of sawdust.

Given that you'll be exposing raw wood when removing the scratches, you might as well strip the finish from the whole stock with some stripper (I like Liberon Fine Wood Stripper) before re-finishing it.

When I did my HW35 I didn't spend nearly enough time on the stock, and stripping it back mechanically with a scotchbrite wheel is my bigget regret, it ended up giving the whole stock a texture where the lines of the wood grain are raised, and I'm dreading breaking it down and re-shaping it with a card or sanding. But on the bright side, leaving the stock to cure with tung oil or whatever can happen whilst you're working on the internal elsewhere.

Really good rifle to work on, even for a novice like me! :D

Blimey that's had a hard life ! Why not raffle it off when it's been re-vamped rather than giving it away ?

Leather seal version ? If so they have a larger TP than the synthetic seal.

I'm not so sure that is walnut, the grain looks more like beech to me, plus there's no cap on the pistol grip ?

An O ring conversion on these can work extremely well, but sizing is critical.

It’s a walnut Luxus - I’m fairly sure - looks like mine 👍

Don’t see a crack think was maybe there for added grip 🤷‍♂️
