New HW100 Release: HW100X

My big dilemma is….
Get a hw100x then have to cost of scope, mounts, bipod etc, or….

Await some nice hw100’s coming up with people “upgrading” to the x that has all the goodies already on and even a ratworks cylinder or similar so basically very similar gun for a good saving 🤔

I've got similar thoughts. I think I must have New Shiny Syndrome. 🤣

But there are some buts for me.
I like the look of the laminate, it's even better looking in that woodland green than the old style laminate KT I had. But, wonderful as it was, I sold it.
I like the idea of the increased shot count. But, for that to be a game changer and a gimme, it would have to be a full length and I don't want a full length. I only like the KT.
I like the idea of a 250 bar fill for more shots. But I've never had my existing HW100 converted because it gives me a good enough shot count before I need to refill for me not to care. Also, until I hear differently, the current official claim for the .177 KT shot count is significantly lower than Ratworks and HW100Tuning but in no way significantly enough higher from what I currently get to warrant the investment.

So, currently my head is saying I have no need of one. If I didn't have the gun I have and was inclined to be getting an HW100, it could well be a very different story. That opens up options, as you have highlighted. This X is already exerting downward pressure on non-X prices, which then gives the options of getting a new no-X for a good price or getting a used one and then the next option of whether you want to upgrade it with a 250 bar-capable reg.

Go see one in the shop. It stands out in the racks, it’s worth seeing and holding just to see it. Definitely a moment for weirauch. It’s a bit like a resto-mod car!

There isn't an RFD within thirty minutes drive away. I've only been in two RFDs in the last five years, one that's now closed and one nearly an hour away.

Which works well because I don't do browsing and getting tempted by guns that stand out on racks that I don't need. 🤣

🤔😂😂😂

But but but you NEED one.

It’s driving me insane as to what to do.

Yup, I might be one of those people.
I am tempted by the new HW100X, but will probably be selling an HW100 T to make room for it.

Just tell the wife, rifles are as fashionable as shoes! The X is the current fashion and you NEED it 🤣

That's not an issue. Long ago, I determined a wife isn't something to even WANT, let alone NEED. And I NEED an X about as much as any ex-. 🤣

OK, that's overstating it. An X could conceivably still worm its way into my affections and into my life. No ex- ever could. 🤣

I'm probably a prime candidate for the HW100X as I'm been look for something to replace my RM8 for a while. I haven't seen the 100X. but I have looked closely at the laminate HW100 and already decided I don't need the cheek risers, or laminate finish for that matter. I'll be interested to see how the new adopters get on and whether or not the lighter gun performs any better than the old as it has a new "ultra efficient regulator".

I expect the HW100 XT will be along early next year, which could be more to my liking. Heresy I know but I think I might even prefer the synthetic stock option ;-)

Mat Manning has done a great review on Airgun Extra:

Interesting point, you need to remove the cylinder before the first time it is filled, then refit the cylinder and refill afterwards as normal.

Yep, that's what he says...

One important thing to note is that you need to remove the cylinder from the gun the first time you fill it – unless it has already been filled. This is only a one-time job though, and the cylinder can stay in situ for refilling thereafter.

...and it's the first time I've read about this apparent requirement. If true, doubtless someone more intelligent than me will know why that is the case but whilst I've heard of cylinders being being filled off gun - I've done my own HW cylinder a number of times - I've never even heard of a first-time must do it before. 🤷‍♂️

I wonder why. Anyone got any ideas?
