How hard to fill a PCP using a Pump?

Easy just don't got hell for leather 40 bar 5 min rest, 40 bar 5 mins rest etc etc etc you'll get there in the end 🤣👍

Don't get the pump hot it won't last long 👌 I pumped for years I'm relatively fit so weren't a problem however now have a compressor 😂

Thanks, good advice! I will be using that technique but not out of choice!

There is probably no "one size fits all" answer to this.
A pump works for me despite being 68 because I am 6ft 3ins and 16 stone. This allows me to use my weight to drive a pump and my height to complete full strokes.
That is one half of the equation: the other half is that I am only pumping the 175 cc cylinder on my HW100S from 100 bar to 200 bar, seldom more than once every couple of weeks.
Any change to the factors of either half of the equation may unbalance things so that a pump is not the answer!

Just get the cylinder filled, there is a scuba store 5 miles from you, you will thank me eventually ;)

If your uneasy with them, your about 25 mins north of me, drop down and I'll fill your cylinder FOC and go through anything you want to know about it or it's use (y)

Also if you get a tank with the biggest capacity you can then you won’t need to travel back and forth as often.

Your probably correct and thanks for the offer earlier of nipping down to yourself. I bought the handpump and will attempt to use it at the weekend... your advice on the tank is probably the right course of action to take as mine is only a small tank.

After running low I pulled out my Hill Spartan MK2 to temporarily allow me to shoot - it seems it puts in 0.5 bar per pump motion, I wondered if there are hand pumps that are more effective like 2-5bar maybe?

Not 100% sure but I did often think about getting two linking them together to double the output.

In the end after years pumping I got a compressor 😂 still got the pump but it's now only used as a backup.

I still think about the double pump I reckon it would have been great 😄

My video shows that with my mk4 Hills I get about 1 bar per full stroke (up and down stroke). So if I need to pump 50 bar it will take about 50 pumps/strokes. (y)

My Chinese pump does fractionally less than one bar per pump. Roughly 160 pumps to put in 150 bar. I’d guess no two brands are the same though.
One thing I will say is make sure you depress the pump all the way down to the bottom. With mine the last few millimetres is where the real compression happens.

I’ve just bought a hw100 and in the booklet that came with it it says not to use a hand pump.
It also repeats the phrase “dive quality air to be used”.

Takes me several days to fill a 490cc bottle :ROFLMAO: 600 plus pumps. My legs wear out pretty quick. If I can get my grandkids to pump it up it is not so bad. I finally bought a cheap compressor and now it only takes 10 minutes.

I guess it means dry air vs containing moisture - you can achieve the same with filters - a compressor doesnt do it any differently
Okay, we shouldn’t believe all we read, but I believe it.. some don’t bother though but I love my rifles..

The hill dry pack! Got one on my Hill Spartan and added a Hill gauge for £25 too,

Change the dry pack when the gold colour crystals turn green.. in the summer I find that’s around 6 months.. if I leave it in my cold loft they change very quickly so now I wrap the dry pack in an airtight bag and wrap a laggy band around it while not in use..
I’ve no central heating see, happy with my wood burner!
Anyhow they say Sheffield university tested it and for the 1st 3 months of the crystals/beads the air is dry and equals that of divers air..

Wether it’s worth the extra for a Hill pump it’s up to you..

Personally I do and I want to squeeze the lifespan out of my rifle cylinders..✔️

I'm thinking of getting one but would like to ask if any of you pump owners think bodyweight would make a difference? I've read that the best technique is to bend your legs and use bodyweight and that's the reason for my question - I weigh 10.5 stone but I'm fit and strong enough for my age. (65).
I would be topping up an ultra se.

I’d say you’ll be just fine..
it’s only a chor if the rifle is new and the cylinder is completely empty..
yes a bit like the old Bobbys evening all bend knees arms straight on the down stroke 👍

That's only if The Tooth Fairy does the pumping!
The only way to effectively filter the water from the air is after it's been compressed and becomes a saturated vapour.
Each litre of air contains an amount of water vapour. As you force more litres into a smaller space, the air can no longer contain the amount of water in a vapour and it condenses into droplets that can be filtered out, using a molecular sieve, before it enters the gun.
The dry pack may remove a tiny bit of the water vapour if you pumped VERY, VERY slowly to allow sufficient exposure time to the dry pack media for it to do any work but probably not!

Can you use a hand pump if the bottle is completely empty ? I keep hearing conflicting stories. Has anyone here actually pumped theirs un from completely empty by hand before? Many thanks , happy Christmas 🎄

I’ve got an Kral NP02 which is good for about 200 shots. I use an Amazon 3 stage hand pump whatever that is. If I had to guess I’d say about 300 pumps gets it from half to full. You could take it easy and do it in a few sittings but I don’t mind the exercise (I’m 52 BTW). Secret is don’t let the gun go empty otherwise you’ll be pumping air forever. If I was being honest, if I had a lower shot count rifle or pistol I’d probably get a scuba tank but I only need to fill up once every few weeks so no drama.
