Do any if you knife makers recognise this wood(If it is wood)?

Is it cut obliquely? I'm thinking it might be lati. Google The Wood Database - they have an identification guide and all the characteristics. If you weigh it and calculate the density, and compare hardness with other know wood's that might help narrow it down.

Whilst on the subject of knife making, I am exploring the subject of laser etching!
Anyone offer any advice please?
