Is it cut obliquely? I'm thinking it might be lati. Google The Wood Database - they have an identification guide and all the characteristics. If you weigh it and calculate the density, and compare hardness with other know wood's that might help narrow it down.

Hi Campervan, I can not help on the type of wood, but what a beautiful knife handle it will make. It looks almost like an expensive laminate. I pray it will turn out well for you. Best of luck. Cheers. CSW.
