Wood experts- is this beech or walnut?

I would say Walnut.
Personally, I would e-mail Air Arms and see what your HC came out the factory with going by the serial #.

I would say it’s walnut but not a great example!
I have bought TXs before with a beech stock that when I checked with AA had started life with a walnut stock on. Clearly at some point someone had changed the stock, luckily the beech stock was very nice, so happy to stick with it 👍

Walnut of dubious quality, I would not be paying the premium for quality walnut, for a piece that is barely distinguishable from beech.

I'm leaning Walnut, I've never seen beech with those dark, bordering on black, bands. Colour variance is also not quite as warm as I'd expect to see on even a stained beech stock.

Pop off the trigger guard and look into the stock, you might find that where the screws go through there's some bare wood in there - much easier to tell the raw colour from that, and then identifying the species will be much easier!

Looks like walnut to me. What’s the other side of the cheek piece like? On air arms walnut stocks they have a nice sharp edge ins the walnut and a softer more rounded edge on the beech. It looks oiled too? Is it oiled or varnished?
I was thinking the same - looks like a relatively uninspiring piece of walnut, but the matte finish suggests it's oiled, which is more likely to be walnut.

A shame really - if I had paid the extra coin for a Walnut version and this is what I had, I'd be a little disappointed. Great rifle though.

It's the right colour for walnut though the grain is very straight, which is a characteristic of English walnut but not the continental or Turkish walnut we see so much of these days.
Sadly, almost all of the walnut trees in the UK were cut down to make rifle stocks & De Havilland Mosquitos during WWII and the stock has not been replenished because walnut trees take a LONG time to grow - They say you plant walnut for your great-grandchildren !

No idea on finish, it’s a purchase I am considering👍
