Hello,

Looking to purchase 12G Cartridges for clay pigeon which are fibre wadded, accurate and value for money. I'm not fussed about limiting recoil.

Eley First Select 28g in 8 caught my eye.

Any recommendations?

Cheers,
Bradley.

I just shoot #7-1/2 low base, 2-3/4" field loads, same as I use for dove/quail/ ruffed grouse/ woodcock...

Ideally try and get in front of a pattern plate, but for similar money we supply Hull Superfast as our club cartridge, and they prove to be very consistent and reliable. Fiocchi Lightspeeds were also ok (we supplied them as the alternative club cartridge), but on and off over the last year we’ve had hard primer issues. I used to shoot Express English Sporters for a while, and they also patterned well. UK size 8 will destroy the majority of club clays, but it can be useful to go up a size for a few boxes in case of more distant clays (depending on whether your club has any shot size limits). These are all good budget loads.

The Eley Select will do butbif you actually cut one open the shot is nit exactly great quality, ones stuck together, flats on them, not really that round.
A couple of quid more a slab improves things a lot, if youre not using a semi auto then Hull Comp-X are a kittle better, but my choice would be Fiocchi F-Black.

For most sporting clays under 40 yards you could use 21 gram 8’s,though the price isn’t a lot less than 24 or 28 grams. Most cartridges are pretty good really and there isn’t much difference between 1300 fps and 1550fps when it comes to lead probably 6 inches difference at 30 yards.Lyevale Express is one of my favourites, power blue or English sporter.

I always used Gamebore Velocity until I had a shoulder problem. I then started to use Gamebore Evo 21g and my scores went up a bit. I have now started to use Eley select 21g & 24g for all my clays and we buy them for our small club.
We also get some Fiocchi lite 26g for members who like some heavier carts

What ever is cheapest - seriously what ever goes bang and is the weight you want they all break clays

Eley select are good - just remember the tape that holds the lid closed is made of an unbreakable polymer :) small penknife helps

I used Gamebore White Gold fibre wads in England which, at the time, were only available in 28g. Here I have found an advantage using 24g for the first barrel, because the reduction in recoil allows me to find the second target more quickly or take the second shot with more control (FITASC). At the moment I'm the only one using 24g at my club. I have seen 21g used here by a young girl, but from my supplier (Decathlon) they are not available. So if you can buy them, you could go 21g and 24g and choke a degree tighter? My advice with any new cartridge is to pattern plate it at 30 metres. With lighter loads you need a very even pattern, so avoid one that throws a dense centre, unless you want something for extreme distance.

I've just bought a slab from my local rfdBradford stalker near Durham. They are there own line but made by gamebore , I think they are 28 gram 7s they are lovely on the shoulder and not to expensive, thankfully because I miss a lot lol

I've used those rebranded ones from Bradford Stalker plenty over the years. Always did me ok given I'm not a great shot. How much are they these days?
