What is your favorite libation? (Secular use of word)

A well aged claret from a great vintage and a great Chateau.

Should be illegal to eat roast beef or steak without a bottle.

Had a bottle of 1988 Ch Grand-Puy-Lacoste about 25 years ago, and I swear I can at times still taste it.

Have 3 bottles left and I keep thinking they will now be dried out and past it, but each time I open a bottle it isn’t ! Gonna cry when the last one is drunk, they are like old friends who have been with me through thick and thin. So many memories of family meals.

Don’t think I could afford them now.

After that I am partial to a pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord, or a Blacksheep.

Timothy taylor is such a good beer, we always take bottles of that wild camping, chilled in the river

Spirit wise i'm a Glenfiddich or Glenmorangie drinker.
If i'm in the mood for a beer it's either an IPA or golden beer.
Rick😜

Nowt wrong with Glenfiddich. When I had just turned 18 I decided whisky is what ‘real men’ drink so I bought myself a half bottle. It was effing revolting but I persevered and by the end of the bottle I was converted to whisky.

There is a reason we have evolved a liver three times bigger than needed to get through a life, and that reason is better known as ‘whisky’, To die in old age with a fully intact liver is an insult to the wisdom and generosity of nature 😆

Wouldn’t clean the toilet with Glenmorangie.

This one currently. If you like a Bourbon, I encourage to try it 😋

Top top Bourbon is Wild Turkey IMO.

The Russell’s Reserve is also a cracker. Unlike malt whisky I think bourbon cries out for a few chunks of ice just to cut that deep oaky sweetness.

I used to really like Buffalo Trace because it had a distinct rye note to it but they started to water it down to 40% and so lost the fullness and depth, to my taste.

Ardbeg, my preference was the17 year old, but the 10 year old is quite nice.
In fact most of the Islay whiskeys are to my taste 💪

Not a bad one amongst them, although Bowmore does sail close to the wind at times.

A marginal fave of mine is Caol Ila. A large glass fronted 60’s brutalist distillery situated on the edge of the sound between Islay and Jura (very deep sound - great for pollock fishing). It is run by UD on an industrial scale with stills going 24/7/52. It is by far the largest volume producer on the island and most whiskies (malt or blend) which seek that peaty addition will likely use Caol Ila. Most of the supermarket own label Islay malts will be Caol Ila.

It’s not pretentious, it’s not stupidly priced, it IS a great full on peaty whisky.

I think my answer here might actually have to be coffee. It's the only drink I think I would prefer to have nothing if it wasn't of at least a decent quality. Instant has become completely unpalateable for me now, even Maccas can do a drinkable espresso, but I'm yet to find an instant that is worth pursuing - and it's all so expensive now! £7 for a jar of disappointment!

But I don't really drink alcohol, not really for any reason other than not really enjoying the taste. I do use a fair amount of wine for cooking, and I keep a good amount of spirits on hand for desserts (bananas foster is always good in a pinch! Who among us can't enjoy a good flambé?) but that's about it.

Any time I find something I really do like - I either run out (small batches of mead from friends) or it is discontinued (RIP Jeremiah Weed's "Root Brew"). Don't think I'll ever understand Whiskey, had a friend ply me with some of his best (££££) stuff, assuring me that I've just never had "good" whiskey, but still tasted like cardboard to me! 😅
