New incentive just announced for Irish drivers of older petrol or diesel cars to switch to fully electric cars.
If you're car is 13 years old or older you can opt to scrap it and get an extra €5,000 off a new EV. This is on top of the €3,500 grant that has been in place for quite some time so overall a reduction of €8,500 off the new price of an EV.
My favorite part of the small print is people that live in rural areas where there is a lack of public transport will be given priority over city dwellers. Of the €10m fund set aside 2/3rds will be earmarked for rural areas with the remaining 1/3 split between the 5 largest cities.
It's on a first come first served basis but it's highly likely more money will be made available next year to encourage more people to make the change.
A brand new Dacia Spring will be about €11k which is a great deal.
