This really should be one of the biggest stories in modern history...

I don't think anyone here has said there's no life on other planets.
Just not the sort of life that beams up into its little space ship and zooms about the universe with a packet of Smash in one hand and an anal probe in the other. Because, until we learn otherwise, is a matter only of faith, not of fact.
Right!
But its a very real possibility none the less, but yes as of now currently no decent evidence or artifact in public hands.

I just don't think things should be dismissed out of hand.

There are some interesting quotes coming out of the US Senate on Grusch's claims, it seems like they are being treated seriously.

"The takeaway from [the spring's UAP briefings] is, they had thousands of sightings of these things over the years, which was news to me. So I'm not surprised, necessarily, by these latest allegations, because it sounds pretty close to what they kind of grudgingly admitted to us in the briefing," Sen. Hawley said. "It's not good. None of it's good. I think we want to get to the bottom of this. I think it's disturbing." - Hawley

Another thing that I think has yet to be mentioned; even if there was another planet capable of supporting intelligent life, who's to say it exists right now? If the universe has been around for untold billions of years, maybe civilisations on other planets have come and gone or are yet to evolve.
There's nothing to say they have to exist at this particular moment in time.
I think that makes the chances even smaller than I thought.

Or by some strange twist we are there ruddy ant farm in a lab somewhere.
there is a question that i dont know if as ever been asked or thought about ... but How big are we in the big picture .
are we a spec of dust in a breeze
are we in a drop of water on a leaf .
we are in something ........ space is a vacuum.......jeeeez we're in a feckin hoover 😳

Anyway .. if we are in a vacuum. which is probably caused by the expansion of the bang.
what is the bang in . and dont say space . even space has to be in something somewhere.

The actually mad thing is we can only see part of the universe to begin with, there are bits of the universe so far away that light hasn't reached us yet...

And beyond that, there is a good change that multiple universes exist.

The universe is expanding, therefore it has an edge and ends at some point. What is beyond that?

You ever watched the film, Antz

Tiz a bit mad to try to visualize something that big and that other suns somewhere there light has never reached us in billions of years .

Why? Just because the human mind isn't capable of thinking otherwise, it doesn't make it so.
But it might be Bill . i suppose its a bit like a bullet hole in a post .. find the hole and look back though it . what if when we do the math we find out . it came from outside this universe .
but that alone poses another question . the universe has no mile marker . your in the territory of infinitely on a scope . you dont know how far anything is away . unless you know the size of a object in the picture .
everything we know is based on our perspective of time /size and distance .
we just might be the Ant walking across the 25 acher field . until we get there we will never know . how big it is . then again its our perspective.
To aliens ( which i think there are ) they might see the field as 2.5 microns. which means the universe is a lot smaller . But not to us .

Side step ... if are fastest jets .say a MiG-25 Foxbat, reported with a top speed of 2,190mph and these UFO's can leave them for dead in our atmosphere . How fast is that UFO in space. If thats where they come from.

Never a closed mind Bill . Imagination tiz a wondrous thing .

It's all over now established whole Las Vegas alien landing was an hoax
Just like the HG Wells WAR OF THE WORLDS radio transmission caused the locals to go around shooting up their water towers because they thought they were Martian craft .

On a general theme that part of this thread has developed but not exactly the OP's original intent there are a couple of interesting facts/theories that I dont think have been covered yet (I havent read every post so apologies if they have been covered already).

At the point of the big bang there was no time (that didn't come about until later) so the next bit is uncertain as to how long it took.

When the 'mass' of the universe belched out of the the singularity, most of it 'promptly' (no time dont forget) disappeared again as equal amounts of matter and antimatter reacted in 'quite a big' explosion (which is still with us today in background radiation). This left an unequal small piece of matter as there was a little bit more of matter than anti matter (or the other way round) and the theory is that the whole of the current universe (5% we're aware of and 95% dark matter/dark energy) is only 100,000,000 (one hundred millionth) of the original amount of matter that exploded.

Life on other worlds. They dont have to be building cities and having wars to be classed as life. Respiration; Excretion; Movement; Reproduction; Irritability; Nutrition and Growth (REMRING) is our definition of life (school in the 60's - might have changed). So, there is an argument that viruses are not actually alive. How so you might say after all the horrible afflictions that haunt us. Well you can replicate how a virus acts with crystals in a solution. Leave a piece of copper sulphate or other in a solution with feeder chemicals and next morning its grown and all the crytal shapes are the same - Growth; and if in one of your body cells would certainly f**k you up - simplistic, but trying to demonstrate that not all that acts alive is alive (some of our politicians for instance). BUT besides that aside about crystals etc, some of the extreme habitats on Earth would seem impossible for life to exist. Very high pressures, extreme cold, extreme heat, but very simple life has been found in all these places, bacterial mostly and could never (?) develop beyond what they are now.

There is a small Saturnian moon called Enceladus which is currently getting a great deal of attention from our earthbound space agencies because the ice likely covers oceans where the same conditions exist. There is a lot of activity thermal and chemical on the moon. 'They' are definitely not saying that any potential life will be able to build, organise, develop or anything. They are however suggesting that there is a high possibility that very simple life could exist as all the building blocks are there. It wont be space travel though and they wont be visiting us. We will be visiting them though as funding has been put aside for a NASA mission just for that. I hope I'm still alive when that spacecraft reaches that moon.

Most of the above (except for the crystal and virus bit cause we grew crystal at school) is what I've read from minds immeasurably superior to mine.

Anyway, my superior collective cells have decided that it's time for a cup of tea - they dont get THAT on Enceladus.

Most people have more pressing things to think about then contemplating the possibility of alien life forms visiting earth. There's bills to be paid and traffic jams to negotiate and by the time all that has been dealt with little grey/green men are going to seem very unimportant.
Probably since evolution progressed beyond apes there has been a need to explain things, such as the weather, which were at that time beyond understanding and so these things were attributed to gods. There are plenty of tales of these deities mainifesting themselves but usually only to the chosen few who set themselves up as conduits to the almighty. To my mind this is pretty much what is now happening with regard to extra terrestial 'beings', strong and irrational belief in something for which there is no evidence and in this internet/photoshop age there are plenty of people happy to take advantage and mock those believers, a bit like the holy relics of the middle ages.
Those that are believers in ET are always going to claim that the lack of evidence is due to government cover ups so will never be persuaded otherwise and will take no notice of anything that appears in main stream information sources who, obviously, are only publishing what they (a mystical and secret group living in the shadows) want the plebs to see. It's classical conspiracy theorist behaviour.

Well, they would say that wouldn't they! (Mandy Rice-Davies)

I'm mearly pointing out that throughout history there have been numerous mentions of sightings and contacts, to snub our history no matter how nebulas the information we risk throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Coupled with the vastness of the universe and amount of star systems I find it tantamount to ignorance to believe that we are the only life in the universe.
As a species we are still arguing about the colour of our skin and trying to work out if we are male or female. Waging war killing each other over whatever no wonder we haven't been contacted by intelligent life, if we can't get along with each other why would anyone approach us?
The zoo hypothesis springs to mind.

I'm not for one minute suggesting that we're alone in the Universe and never have suggested or inferred any such thing. In fact whenever this or a similar topic has been posted on here i've always maintained the opposite view i.e that it's highly unlikely that we're alone in the Universe. If you've read any of my previous posts when this topic has been mentioned you will see that is the case, but perhaps you haven't.
There's almost certainly other life forms somewhere in the Universe and it may have developed along the same lines as us or it may not. Even if it has it may not be as advanced as us or it may be more advanced.
It's just that whenever this topic, aliens, ufos' or life somewhere else in the Universe there's seems to be a presumption that it's far more advanced/sophisticated than us which they may not be. That they're travelling around the cosmos in spacecrafts that can travel at the speed of light or even faster, if that is even possible which according to Einstein's theory of relativity isn't possible
But perhaps some on here know better than dear old Albert.;)
As i've said sub-atomic particles, protons, electrons neutrons, neutrinos, quarks may be able to but as for physical/tangible objects i've yet to be convinced and shall maintain my scepticism to say the least.

3000 years old .apparently some one back then was a clever sod .
seems the pilot is missing him/her head .

Hardly conclusive proof of aliens, extra terrestrials or a spacecraft aeons ago.
The stone/rock or whatever the material is may be 3000 years old but is doesn't mean that what was carved into it is.
That could have been done at any time.
Show that to any eminent scientist in the fields of anthropology, astronomy. astrobiology, xenology and say that's proof of aliens visiting Earth or someone from an ancient civilisation sitting in what appears to be some form of spacecraft and they'd probably laugh in your face.

I may be wrong here but I'm sure it was on a programme where they carbon dated it and that would include any patina on it. 👍

The Turin Shroud is a classic example thought by and believed by thousands, mainly those with deep religious convictions, to be the shroud that Christ's body was wrapped in after the crucifixion and which bears an image of Christ's face. But there isn't a shred of evidence to corroborate/substantiate that claim but thousands refuse to believe otherwise.
Likewise i believe there are people still looking for the Holy Grail.

Yes carbon dating may define the age of the rock/stone but can it or will it confirm when the carving/sculpting was performed, i very much doubt it.

If they dated the patina it would, there would be no point dating the stone itself 🤣 any stone could be millions of yeas old.

Patination on the surface would just determine how long and where the rock/stone has been exposed to the elements not necessarily when the carving/sculpting took place.
