I have a slip on barrel weight/moderator for a hw80 it’s only held with a small grub and comes loose after a number of shots, Im thinking either superglue or blue thread locker for a more permanent solution to fix it to the barrel with the possibility to remove it again with a little heat?

Thread lock is for what it says on the tin - threads... if you want to grip a cylindrical plain area then either bearing retainer or an adhesive would be better.

Try threadlock first , I’ve used it on both my HW30 & HW99 shrouds and it’s worked perfectly well , neither of those have grubscrews or any sort of mechanical fixing at all .

I've fitted a lot of blued steel silencers and muzzle weights over the years.
I bond them as I don't like grub screws.

I use superglue gel.
If you need to remove them, heat melts the glue and its easily cleaned up.

I'm not keen on them myself, coming loose, marking the barrel etc.
I've been considering trying a bit of careful drilling to form a hollow for the screw to seat in. It ought to look better than the usual scar if removed and being engaged with the barrel might reduce any tendency to start moving...
Anyone tried anything of the sort?

As Chris suggests above, blue Loctite and a nylon tipped grub screw or a small cross section of suitably sized o ring. Did the latter with a slip on adaptor on a QB78 ratter back in 2011 and it has never moved

Haven’t heard of that fix.

Thanks👍

my first question is how many thousand is the ID of the moderator compared to the OD of the barrel
when OD and ID are a very snug fit they will hold due to surface area friction and of course the grub screw can be held with whatever
put some on the grub screw and let it dry without installing

and drilling dimples in the barrel is better than grub screw marks is a very odd compromise
and of course, nylon grub screws would be best, but their overall length can be a problem
adding 2 more grub screws could be an option
but a net, net OD to ID fit is first needed
but what to use printer paper 5mm wide criss, crossed over the barrel end, the pellet will break the paper and be out of the way
but there could be other ways but all 4 side need the shim

just ideas good luck

The only thing i'll add with superglue, is to be thoughtful about where you put it.
Slather the whole length of the barrel area that the mod will cover, and you'll find most gets scraped back leaving a big clean up job, behind the mod.
I put a bit inside the rear of the mod and a bit on the front of the barrel, and it spreads fairly well leaving minimal clean up.

I've never actually clapped eyes on a nylon tipped grub screw, but I do like the idea of using a bit of o ring. Sounds like a good "get you home" fix at the very least, and without subsequent clean up...
I have a muzzle thread protector that used to be loose every time I touched it - an o ring fixed that 🙂
