Just a quick report, me and the boy (13) went down to our usual clay ground today ,oak Lodge in hartlepool which is full of friendly knowledgeable people and we happened to follow a man n wife on the rabbit clay, me and my son missed every one lol nothing unusual about that but the man gave my son a free lesson almost, and within a couple of shots the bairn was smashing the clay time after time ,not only did this make the Bairn ridiculously happy but it made me smile thinking a stranger has gone out of his way to help my son who he's never met before,so thank you stranger and to everyone reading this get yourself to oak Lodge you will be made more than welcome, and the sausage sandwiches are the food of the gods .

shoot to miss just in front ;)---Tip when swinging at a pigeon-crow-pheasant--say in you head as you swing the gun at the target "Bum belly beak!!BANG" same with a running rabbit--Tail-belly head-Bang!!!! works most of the time
Most miss over the top on the rabbit , so come through the target and target the front edge low as in shooting to miss low . No doubt some ricochets off the ground and break the clay .
I've tried everything, I always shoot maintained lead with clays as after years of rifle shooting I'm quite slow and swinging through takes extra time for me.
So I stay in front of clays to see where they're going, with the rabbit I was told to imagine it's got front legs and shoot low at that point.
Doesn't make any difference.

Where I used to shoot they would wait until it was about to stop and shoot it.
I could not do it I had to hit it as it left the trap.
Way back when I started clay shooting I was told to imagine I had a paint brush in the end of the barrel and I was painting a line through the clay, and as I swung through, take the shot.

Try moving your hand on the forend closer to you. This helps to speed the swing up.
Pushing your hand further forward towards the end slows it down.

Love rabbits too. They have a rabbit flush at Eaton Hall. It is great fun, fast and furious!
I am yet to meet anyone in the clay or air rifle cohort that is willing to help if they can.

Most people start the rabbit target with the barrels to high just as though they were shooting a crossing target. Keep the gun level with the ground which will help to keep the shot low as most people shoot over the top. I was shown this 22 years ago by John Bidwell who is one of this county's very best shots and both my wife and myself still do this simply because it works.

I like the myximtosis ones they come out slower:ROFLMAO:
That reminds me, many years ago my buddy and myself to visit a re entry open every month and one stand that was always part of the competition was a rabbit, hand rolled down a length of drainpipe between the trees, so slow it was unreal with a screaming bird through the trees on report. My buddy never hit a rabbit in all the visits we made there, he just could not work it out but it had me laughing every month much to his annoyance. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: He did however smoke to screamer every time.
