Prosport, worth it or not?

How much is an HW97, add tuning, add a CS walnut stock

So comes out at about the same but without the amazing blueing

Then you have the fact it is made by British people in Britain

So it’s actually quite easy to justify

Personally I prefer the TX200 which has a really classy appearance and I think the stock has a better shape to it.

I’ve had two ProSports. .177 and .22
The .22 was a really effective rat gun

And another point, you aren’t just working for survival, we all need stimulation. We all appreciate nice things and you have been working and saving so why not

If you buy a good second hand one, you can always sell it on for the same price or more

Thankyou for the informative and relevant input

A bit rich for me tbh. I don’t think I’ll be buying any more new hw springers either. All too much money for the sum of their parts now in my opinion. Each to their own. 😉👍

What would be your choice of a new rifle be, if money was no issue

I love the prosports but I wouldn't pay the asking price for one now , I had one that I swapped for a Webley tomahawk but it was in .177 so traded it in on a hw100 in .22 . I thought I had done ok when I got £400 for it but the 100s were about £850 at the time . As good as the prosports are I would find it hard parting with a grand for one .

Thanks, hitting the target is my main perogative. For what the rifles are used for. I just struggle to fathom and justify the price.
A hw100 is basically the same cost. I just don't see how it is justified.

Or do I need to shoot one, then I'll know?
Only one way to find out! 😀
If you lived closer, you could pop over and try mine out. TBH I don’t know how the price is justified….as I said earlier , I’ve had mine a very long time and didn’t pay anywhere near the current asking price.

I gave £450 for this one!
It’s the GOAT of springer’s imo 👌

If you read the original post, I state that I have not shouldered, nor shot a prosport...
I do not understand this thread then.

I am a fan of my HW99, but it doesn't compare to a Pro Sport.

Off the top of my head the extra £700 goes into:
  • Better barrel, HW barrels are fussy
  • Better finish, AA bluing is better
  • Better engineering internally, AA springers run on rotating pistons and internals run on plastic bushes out of the box
  • Better stock, it's far more ergonomic
  • Better finish internally, my HW97 has a spring that looked like it was cut with a bolt cutter
AA springers are a league above HW, you're going to pay for that.

They are stunning rifle, I love my .22 example which was bought as a doer upper. The new prices are eye watering though and as others have said secondhand is the way to go. Even with the cocking mechanism there’s not actually a lot that could go wrong with them.

Not that I am in the market for another rifle (or so she thinks). But, I have always liked the look of a prosport.

A left handed walnut stock option is £1010. I am by no means a hw snob, but all my hw springers will produce ragged one hole groups at 30yards. The cheapest hw is the 99 at about £280.

I struggle to see what more you get for an additional £700. Saying all of this, I have never shouldered or shot a prosport, or a tx for that matter.

I understand they are much better out of the box, but a £60 tbt kit in a £280 hw rifle is as accurate as I will ever need.

Who can explain the ridiculous prices. I'm sure they used to be about £600. In which case I may be tempted.

Thanks
I thought exactly the same as you regarding the cost of Air Arms rifles and especially the Prosport , however, after biting the bullet just before Christmas, I can say yes, the cost is considerable, but worth every penny!
if you could own only one springer, this might well be it! It is a thing of beauty to look at and mine shoots fantastic out of the box. Not everyone will agree, but if you can afford one, give it a try, if it doesn’t work out for you, they sell well second hand. And I say this being a confirmed Weihrauch fan boy! 😂

I love my Prosport, very accurate. It’s main selling point I think is, there’s nothing to do to them. The comp tube is buttoned, not on a TX, piston is glided and metal spring guide. Also I feel, because it’s AA’s flagship model, I feel it has a better barrel. Probably hasn’t, but just my thought.

Just read the rest of the replies to this thread and it’s still a lot of money but mine was £850 brand new, so a little way off £1000.
If you do want to buy one of these or any rifle, it does pay to shop around and see where you can get the best price. I always try to get a discount, especially if buying other items at the same time such as a scope etc.

I'm not an AA fan but the PS is a lovely looking rifle, it is also awkward to cock and load though.
Cheapest used one on Guntrader is £525 going up to £795.
Whilst that's a decent saving on new it still puts it in the price range of a new, tuned HW with a Custom stock.

Pro Sport and TX200 both my favourite spring powered rifles (had two PS and one TX), the PS is the easiest to shoot with it's flat flush bottom, albeit the cocking handle is crap to use but it works and it looks smart when it's up in the stock flush.

Well, 20% of that is vat for a start, and despite what you may have heard rfds dont actually make that much on guns, I was shown a Browning trade catalogue last week and after costs/vat on a 2k gun they make sod all.
Anyway, the blueing is better, it'll be walnut which is more money, the insides are superior, underlevers are naturally more expthan bbs because there's more parts.
It's shrouded amd silenced, yes it's an expensive rifle but how much would you want to make if you made it?
