As of 30/06/26, sound moderators have been officially declassified from Section 1 firearm controls – but there are a few important changes to how we can now process your orders.

As of 30/06/26, sound moderators have been officially declassified from Section 1 firearm controls – but there are a few important changes to how we can now process your orders.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what has changed, what hasn’t, and what you need to do when buying a moderator from us.
What’s Changed for You- No variation required – You no longer need an open "slot" on your Firearm or Shotgun Certificate to purchase a moderator.
- No certificate endorsement – We will no longer write the moderator onto your physical paper certificate.
- Online sales & direct delivery now permitted – You can now buy a moderator through our website and have it shipped directly to your home address via courier. No more "click-and-collect" or RFD-to-RFD transfers.
What Hasn't Changed- You still must hold a valid FAC or SGC – It remains a criminal offence to possess a sound moderator without a valid certificate. We are legally required to verify your status before dispatch.
- Our stock remains securely locked away – As an RFD, we are still bound by the Home Office Firearms Security Handbook, meaning all moderators are stored in approved safes or monitored secure rooms.
- Record keeping continues – We maintain accurate acquisition and disposal records for full audit trails, just as we do with sub-12 ft/lb air rifles.

I'm wondering what this means for .22 moderators that were previously on an FAC rifle. With serial number tracking now removed, I guess this implies that if they are not actually attached to an FAC rifle, they would be regarded as air rifle moderators and no longer requiring an FAC.
Not really expecting a reply here, I guess this will need to be worked out later.

If you have a mod with a serial number that has been logged to your ticket it will stay with you if you sell it you will need to see the persons ticket as you still need a FAC to own one it just means that you can buy one without having to get a one for one slot like you needed before -that is the way i understand it --so if you fancy a new diffrent mod just show your ticket in a shop RFD etc and buy it there and then --if you sell one private it will be up to you to make sure the buyer has a ticket

Just got my licence back today after a .22lr 1-4-1 variation, the 300blk mod is still listed on the firearms held page!
I very much doubt I'll be able to get a variation for it, a guy at my club suggested taking it to a friendly rfd and have them officially take it off my ticket and keep it for me, then try doing a 1-4-1 on it.
I can't see this working, it may be on my licence but if the police erase it off their system I'm trying to 1-4-1 something that doesn't exist, it's no longer a slot.

Air rifle mods are controlled under VCRA which doesn't apply to FAC items.Will the same apply for air rifle moderators do we think
They are though some RFD's claim they have the authority for the Firearms lLcensing to send them to your door . They have on their website if its a sub12 airgun then they can. post it to you.
I have not seen any change to the VCR Act and we all know some Firearms lLcensing offices do things their own way but I would not like to be the RFD who may have some explaining to do as I'm not sure if they would accept the licensing offices word as a defence .

He's talkng ********, its the firearm thats granted not a slot to do with as one pleases.
It's always worked on a need basis and someone may have previously been able to show justification for a mod but no other actual firearms.
What he means is people that have previously PAID for an unfilled mod slot shouldn't be out of pocket. Maybe they could refund any applicable variation fee, however people may just not have any other option.
I'm inferring from their post they want forces to automatically offer an alternative firearm slot. Good luck with that.
