Nice looking gun. Looks a lot like a Rat Catcher. I’ve been away for a while - what is the difference between the 2240 and the Rat Catcher? Both seem very similar?

Except for barrel length and a shoulder stock, nothing. most parts are interchangeable between the two and even certain parts from a 1377/1322 (probe, barrel and grips etc). The 2250 has a longer cylinder for the CO2 but barrel's etc can be swapped.

Does a silencer significantly quieten the Crossman? Whilst I am normally a CO2 hater, these Crossman things for some reason continues to draw my attention!

It does if you have the steel breech....just make sure, if you are using a scope, that the mounts are high enough to accommodate it. That said he now does a 5 shot as well as the original 9 shot mag's.
If you still want to use open sights on a steel breech with a Grav Mag he also does a clip on rear sight module to accommodate the height of the magazine.
