Jeremy wade

Wow its like i said earlier theres a lot lf effort and things happen behind the scenes that are not filmed that I bet would make a podcast in themselves.

But what an experience man, bet he met a lot lf people and saw a lot of things that didnt make the show.

Fact is if you said right im going to make a series about fishing that appeals to the masses one its got to be different (look how many fishing series are out there) but more importantly just to catch the fish he caught would cost you years and god knows how much money.

So yeah its an achievement and then some, if it was easy everyone would be doing it.

Most people don’t understand the complexities of catching big fish, the planning, preparation, baiting etc just in the hope of catching that one big fish, sitting for days on end, it’s a massive challenge most pleasure anglers don’t realise.
My lads go carp fishing here’s a couple of fish they’ve caught.View attachment 883422View attachment 883423View attachment 883424

Let’s be honest here, catching carp is hardly in the same vein as Jeremy Wade fishing for large dangerous fish that could potentially damage you, suppose you could get a nasty suck off a carp 🤣

Is this a rare pot smoking croc? He looks like he might have been on the old May Jane to me 😅

Let’s be honest I wasn’t comparing catching big carp to what Jeremy Wade catches, I was stating the pleasure angler is totally different to the specimen fishing angler, read the post properly before you try making a smart arse comment. Some fella posts a thread about liking Jeremy Wade and it causes so much negative threads and hostility.

I have to put my hands up i do love Jeremy wade's river monsters --If you like fishing what's not to like --he is down to earth tells it like it is --show's the lengths he go's to having to get special permission and blessing to fish some waters --Yes John Wilson gone fishing was good--But he was just about always fresh water carp-and little tiddlers --at least Jeremy wade done a bit of it all --the loch ness show was a good one --it must be great to do what you love as a job and travel the world ---One thing for sure is when the other person done a fishing show --i can not stand him totally False --he should have stuck play solders and trying to sing

Rumour has it when Jeremy Wade left home for colledge he looked his dad in the eye and said "you are the man of the house now"

Theres no such thing as natural selection in the fish world only the fish that Jeremy hasnt caught!

When Jeremy Wade swims he doesnt get wet.

Ghost sit around camp fires telling Jeremy Wade stories.🤣

Just watched the greenland shark episode and when he gets hooked into it he states this is after 400 rod hours and reeling in over 50 miles of line, thats all at sea on a boat, so Im guessing rodhours means not including the trip to and from the spot.

Lets just put that into context for a minute.

Thats to make what 5 mins of footage..

Thats just for one episode and one species! If you were to add up all his rod hours spent in total I bet it would be an unfathomable number of hours.

I watched a 5 part series he did recently called mighty rivers it was a good watch, if the river monster series upsets you too much.

The thread was more about the man and what hes caught places hes been, I think its safe to say hes lived a life most fishermen can only dream of.

As an angler for over 50 years, mainly pleasure, on rivers & natural lakes I watched River Monsters, mainly because it was about fishing & there's very little of that on the TV. I wasn't keen on all the hype & drama, but understand that it needs to be there to draw the general public. I did enjoy the fishing bits & was quite jealous of what he did, I think he should be applauded. 👏
Someone mentioned Robson Green, I watched the best part of one episode & that was enough, about fishing, or not, I couldn't watch it.
It's almost the same with Mortimer & Whitehouse. I know it's not a full on fishing programme but two mates having a laugh & talking about men's health. I have watched all the series though.
The wife loves it & gets pissed off with me moaning about stuff they're doing wrong ...... in my eyes anyway. ☺️
My mates (none anglers) love it & the conversation about it takes up too much time in the pub on a Friday afternoon. 😣

Im much the same Mick I cant watch that robson green or vic and bob, they drive me up the wall.

Like i say river monsters wasnt the only series Jeremy wade has done, but I watched river monsters on youtube that way the narrative parts can be skipped or fast forwarded straught to the catching parts also seen footage from behind the scenes which I found more interesting than the entire episodes which were aired on tv.

For example when the crew got struck by lightening in the amazon and also where they survived the plane crash both times it could have ended right there.

Also the enjoyed watching the diving parts, like the one in the nile where he swam with live crocs that must have taken balls of steel, especially when at the beginning of the program he was talking to mother and daughter who both lost their arms to a nile croc.

One of the biggest dangers in africa whilst on boats is those hippos if you startle one of those its game over I think they kill more people in africa than all the big cats combined, i think unless you have a 700 cal nitro express to hand theres not much stopping a hippo charge, and the canoes they use in africa are nothing more than bits of floating wood offering little if any protection.

As Ive said on this thread the cynical ones who have to come out with silly comments like "everything the man has done is utter dros" obviously do not understand how many times that crew put themselves at risk to get some of the footage in that series and catch the list of fish they got on the bank, its very easy to make negative comments much harder to actually go out and do what they achieved, Jeremy wade will have a go at anything swimming with crocs and sharks and diving deep depths of the ocean in submarines handling dangerous eels and sting rays to snapping turtles and sharp toothed big fish, at his age! Come on man gotta give the guy props Ive never seen any othet british fisherman on tv doing some of the things this guy has done.

Some of my favourite fishing series on TV over the years .....

Go fishing with John Wilson ....... probably the best?
A Passion for Angling with Chris Yates. Also an excellent show.
Total Fishing with Matt Hayes, plus The Great Rod Race series.
Hooked with Paul Young.
I do try to watch any angling programme that comes onto the TV, but unfortunately I can't be doing with some of the presenters on these 'Big Carp' series. They all seem to be trying to sell you something for a lot of money. :sneaky:

Everything he’s ever done is utter dross. The entire premise of a ‘river monster’ eating villagers, which invariably turns out to be a catfish, is fit for ceebeebies at best.
Don’t hold back say what you think LoL

I quite enjoy river monsters and yes the programme is overly dramatic. Its entertainment, dont take it too seriously. He does catch some monsters though. Cant deny it!

What really makes me chuckle is when i put it on and my wife is there too as she agrees with you complely. I read your post out and she said she couldn't of put it better 🤣 👍

There was an interview floating around a few years ago where he explained the frustration of his producers hamming up the programs with little regard for the actual fishing content. I think left his own devices a much better program would have resulted focussed purely on the fishing. Don’t think for a minute that Mr Wade had much control over the content. To him it was a tool to enable him to get paid to fish in such extreme places.

It was really the opposite, he fished in extreme places long before any t.v was in the offing, to the producers JW is a money spinning tool to enable them to get paid to make profitable t.v in exotic places.
I reckon his shows are o.k, they are on freeview so dont cost a bean to watch and my t.v has an off button which acts as a personal filter, i seldom angle these days and enjoy his shows,
He was also very good on the university challenge episodes he appeared in.

That is probably the truth of it.

It’s a bit like the Comic Strip ‘strike’ episode. 😁
