Is or was the HW77 really that good?

I've posted my HW 77 love affair many times on here since becoming a convert last year.
I was always a BB rifle shooter as a teenager & as I got older I always thought underlever rifles were a "faff on" loading wise.
Fast forward 40 yrs I now own 2 Hw77''s.My 1983 MK1(HELGA) has a WW Kit fitted with standard seals & my 1993 MK3(HEIDI) has a WW kit fitted with Britseals,both adorn Nikko Platinum glossy scopes & are as period correct as possible.
I own centrefire,rimfire,FAC AIR but nothing gives me more enjoyment than using either one of my fraulines.

It’s really hard to go wrong with a 77 they are such a good platform and respond well to even the simplest of enhancements. I have a 77K early 90’s and a 77 1986, put a photo up of the latter on a thread in the gallery earlier in the week. They are both 25mm, the 77 has a Nick Simmons glided tune, the 77K has a WW drop in kit and Britseal. I’ll repeat what I said on the thread I mentioned that even “barn find” type examples shouldn’t be overlooked as they will come good with to too much expense if that’s the way you want to go. Believe me a 77 will always put a smile on your face, both of mine are .22 and I know some turn their noses up at that but just a matter of understanding trajectory to enjoy very accurate shooting. Feed them Field Target Trophy they seem to like them!

Anyone who turns their nose up at a .22 HW77 has a lack of testosterone problem

The only really rough 77 I have found is now absolutely gorgeous.
Apparently an "Air masters" stock and moderator underneath all the neglect.

No, they were better. Especially after a little fettling to get rid of any factory niggles.

And the later Webley Vulcans were rather good too, especially the MkIII KS.

It was an air rifle, not bad, not great, just OK. Then I got hold of an HW80 that wouldn't cock, and ended up putting the trigger unit of the 77 into the 80 to make it work, and put the 77 to one side. when I finally got round to taking the 77 in to have it sorted, it had started working of its own accord!

Is it my imagination, or is that a shorter barrel than the factory K model?

When I checked database its a 1993 serial, has a mk3 barrel release and the 25mm piston. 177 caliber, long barrel.

I shot it back to back with my Walther LGV recently and not allot between them.

20 meters, 5 shots.. 77 on right, LGV left. Both can do better if i can.

That is a really nice looking 77 & the grouping is pretty good as well, excellent. (y)
 
A Mk1 77k was my first foray into modern air rifles. I had borrowed a Mercury S from a mate to shoot rats but had to return it. I went to my local gun shop to see what they had and in the window was this under-lever of a type I had not seen before. I was instantly taken with it. I put hundreds of pellets through it in the garden, using the open sights, I loved it. This must have been in 1984. I still like the look of them but find them a bit heavy, still got an HW though.

I was always a little bit concerned about that, especially as I have already lost the top of one finger in a lawnmower accident a few years ago.:cry:
