Hi all, I'm new here and hoping you can help me...

Back in 2003 I had a gorgeous and superbly accurate hunting outfit comprising a tuned HW97K with a scope that was designed for high-calibre rifles rather than air files, so not made specifically for air rifles by brands such as AGS/PAO.

I've had 5 strokes since then and I am trying to work out that scope that I had, I've spent weeks searching and browsing pictures on the internet to no avail, I took pictures of it for insurance purposes but no longer have them.

I bought said outfit and had it tuned at Countryway in West Malling in Kent in 2003. Unfortunately, it was in my car when IT was stolen in 2005 and the thieving b@st@rd$ even used it to shoot my car up (my car was soon recovered - minus engine, suspension, seats and my treasured outfit).

The scope was Mil-Dot IR red/green with 6 or 7 levels of each with the intensity turret containing the battery at the rear of and fixed above the focus ring, rear of the magnification ring which I think was 4-16. It was AO and came with a huge detachable sunshade probably 5 inches or more as well as lens covers of the type connected by an elasticated cord. The manual for it had a picture of it mounted to something akin to an H&K G3, as I said it was certainly not designed for use with air rifles. When mounted to the HW-97K it overlapped the pellet loading access point at the breach by some considerable degree making loading quite awkward. I'm sure it had a 50mm objective lens.

I can safely say it was not by AGS, PAO, Hawke or any of the other mainstream air rifle scope manufacturers. I had a scope from Edgar Brothers around the time but have been unable to match any pictures of their scopes of the time with what was mounted to my HW97K. I'm sure it cost over £200 at the time I bought it.

If anyone can work out or suggest what I had I would be eternally grateful as I haven't done any shooting since this outfit was stolen and I would dearly love to re-live the awesome days I had with my outfit 20 years ago before I have yet another stroke!!!

Thanks and regards,
Guy

The only scopes I can remember from that far back with the IR on the ocular bell would be something like one of the Tasco Titan series or the Optima Super Moonlighter :

More likely to be the Optima as that is AO and I can't remember if any of the IR Titans were or not

Hi there and many thanks for your response, and so quickly!

Unfortunately, neither of these was what I had - it was definitely not from Tasco as (as far as I can recall) it was by some obscure make and not one you would normally come across nor consider when buying a scope for an air rifle, that's why I was thinking of Edgar Brothers but I now think that may have been the scope on my (previous) HW77.

The pictures you posted are very much like the basic construction of what I had, with the magnification numbers in white and the IR red/green in retrospective colours on the turret as in your pictures, but the tube was much thicker and (AFAIKR) there was little or no branding anywhere on the scope body.

Also, the mounts did not come with it but the sunshade and lens covers did if that's any help.

It is so frustrating, I can picture it vividly but can not recall the manufacturer on the manual that had it mounted to an assault-type rifle and the Mil-Dot reference chart in the manual that I photocopied and carried in the jacket I wore whenever out hunting.

But many thanks for your prompt reply, I'm sure we'll get there in the end ;)

Lightstream scope. This 1 had side focus, but u did used to get AO focus a while back

And no that isn't my legs or my rifle 😂
Hi,

This has a similar "layout" to mine but mine had a "chunkier" magnification ring that was more "corrugated" and the sunshade was much longer. But I now recall the windage/elevation turrets were covered like this but deeper by maybe twice. The mystery continues...

Oh, I would never insinuate your legs look like that!

Regards,
Guy

Can I throw “hakko” into the ring please

Hi,

Of course - the more the merrier!!!

I know it was not by one of the more "common" manufacturers of air rifle specific scopes, as evident in the manual that showed it mounted to some form of assault rifle, and with a Mil-Dot reference chart in the manual with ranges beyond that of an air rifle.

Your picture 0605 is very similar to what I had but mine had no visible "branding" and the tube was much thicker, otherwise I think we're getting somewhere.

This looks VERY similar, only I don't think the turrets were as deep and I'm sure there were no markings or branding on the mag ring, or on any other part with execution to the windage/elevations turrets but nothing that stood out as much as the markings on this scope...

Also, I'm sure mine was full Mil-Dot and not half, it's awful being unable to remember simple things such as this, but that's what one stroke can do to you, let alone five.

This looks VERY VERY familiar only I don't think the turrets were as deep and I'm sure there were no markings or branding on the mag ring or on any other part other than possibly on the windage/elevations turrets but nothing that stood out as much as the markings on this scope and not a logo/brand that comes to mind when Googling scope manufacturers. But the AO markings and IR turret look nearly identical to what I can remember.

Again, all help grateful appreciated, as will finding one once we know what I'm looking for!!!
