Hand warmers

Tried quite a few over the years.. Charcoal stick warmers... Zippos ... find mine a bit temperamental.... sometimes they're great other times hopeless! Another 👍🏻 for the USB hand warmer/power bank type. Usually have a few heat settings too. Mine gets toasty warm .

Another vote for the peacock lighter fluid hand warmer gets really toasty and last up to at least 6 hours on a full fill .
I also have a USB charged ( THAW ) from mountain warehouse I purchased with a gift card one Christmas . Also available on Amazon.
the peacock one is my go too on really cold days

This is my go-to hand warmer, holy s*** it gets so hot , filled with liquid lighter fuel, light the wick on top,it burns with no flame🙃(can't remember how, I'll look for the box)
The more air it gets the hotter it becomes,it comes with a little bag for it while in your pocket,(supposed to protect your hands🤣🤣)
Back when I used to get out in the cold I too used the zippo type - highly effective! Must still have it around somewhere!

I have a zippo and a whitby lighter fuel hand warmer, but nothing beats the 2 USB ones from Amazon I have. They get used daily in the winter when I walk the dog as I have osteoarthritis in my thumbs. In the summer they get used to charge the phone when I'm out and about

I use HotRox USB hand warmer (also doubles as power bank), bought from Amazon . Bought one for Mrs D a few years ago and added another for me going into last winter. End of spring this year one unit failed and would simply not turn on. I contacted HotRox as they have a 1 year warranty and explained I had one that was nearly 3 years old and another about 8 months old but as no serial numbers I could not say which unit had failed. Its obviously a smallish company as I got an email back from the CEO on a Sunday afternoon saying "it was obviously the newer still in warranty unit that had failed, could I return it for replacement". Couple days later a brand new unit arrived with an apology

Met a girl on a shoot who had these and leant me one. Couldn’t believe how hot they were.
Thanks for all the info guys - always appreciated.
In true AGF fashion, @Sparkshot is gifting me a Whitby one to give a go 👍🏻. Gent!

For ease the usb ones are hard to beat however my goto are modded zippo/peacock ones.

Once you understand how they work, they are brilliant….last winter we were getting up to 15hrs from a fill in both the zippos and a peacock. We stopped buying lighter fluid and started to buy Naphtha - much cheaper.

There is a whole sub culture for the petrol heaters - the key is the catalyst in the top. Popular belief is you light it - you don’t, you are actually starting a thermo reaction, if the catalyst actually lights it pretty much Ruins it 😃

This thread does remind me I have two zippos upstairs to be modded and ready for the winter. A couple of litres of naphtha should see us through 😃😃😃

Modded? Pray tell….

You basically change out the catalyst for a “better” one - I imported some from Canada 😃. You can also change out the cotton wool for carbon felt as it holds more fuel - not such a big deal but easy to do.

That’s pretty much it - but you get a much longer heat time….you can also tell when it’s running out of fuel as it gets quite a bit hotter towards the end
