Culling the collection

The man’s gone mad !

Fewer rifles not more ? Never heard of such insane folly.

Although once saw it happen to a chap in Tanganyika in ‘63. I blamed the heat and lack of female company. Went totally doolally, “Why don’t we throw our rifles away and just reason with the lions and rhinos ?” he said.

Much to the delight of the hungry lions.

So let’s be quick, somebody get round there and talk him back before he starts selling.

P.S. I started only 18 month ago and I’m already at 18 rifles, which averages about…errr, hang on a minute I can do this…18 into 1.5 times 12…carry over the 2 and add the 0.6 gives…errr…3.53 rifles per month ? Yeah, that sounds about right, nearly 2 per week.

Still room for an HW77 though, and a blue laminate HW97, and an HW80, and…

I often think I should sell a few of the lesser used rifles, as I do seem to have quite a few guns now! The wife would certainly like me to part with a few.
Before I started buying the dearer rifles I bought a few of the Remington range of rifles, but once I started owning AA and Weihrauch guns, I pretty much stopped using them. Guess that would be where to start culling the collection!
Trouble is, I wouldn’t have bought them in the first place if I didn’t like them! Every time I get them out I think, yes sell them later in the year!🤣

I am now trying to stick to 1 in 1 out as a few years ago I had 5 FAC guns, 4 shotguns and 4 airguns and didnt have time to use them all. Now airgun only i've got 1 PCP & 2 springer rifles, 1 PCP and 2 springer pistols. I really want a Katran so to fund it both the PCPs and 1 springer air pistol will have to go (dont ever really use the pistols). The main problem is seeing the HNGD threads on here and then its "thats nice I want one of them" (especially the nickel & wood Mito recently) which is also how I've ended up with loads of watches I don't wear. So I must resist temptation and not peruse the sales section every day. Well, maybe just today I'll have a quick look.

I managed to reduce a few during my divorce back in 2012 and today I have two PCP that I mainly use.

To this one springer in use and 2 springers in storage as collectables.

I also have one basement (legal limit) open sight PCP and one Co2-pistol (that I rarely use)

Finally 2 rimfires in 22 LR.

That’s an interesting point.

If somebody starts into the pastime (any pastime) with limited cash or limited knowledge then they will likely buy cheap or unwisely, but as they progress eventually end up with the better stuff and thereby making the first purchases a bit redundant.

Unfortunately I (re)started immediately with buying a fantastic Weihrauch which I had known was good since about 1995, and there was no hope for me after that. You can’t go far wrong with another HW.

I thinned mine out considerably a couple of years ago when I moved house, I don't really miss them, but still find myself watching the classifieds for whatever reason  , I'll perhaps buy another one in the summer🤷‍♂️, but I sold over £10ks worth of guns/scopes with little difference to my normal shooting, so I have to say its a sensible thing to do, even if you don't fully want to do it

But what about the shooting? 😊

Been thinking of letting a couple go, I'm currently at 10 pcp, 1 springer and 2 pistols. Plus a couple of the pcp that also have calibre change options 🤷‍♂️. But I do shoot em all, partly due to a randomiser wheel which helps me choose which one sees the light 😂. I definitely am having a scope clear out as I've recently been upgrading so they have been inbreeding and grown in numbers. Back to the rifles though, they all shoot so damn well and really wouldn't know where to start to decide which would get the chop.

I started with one in Sept (HW97), thought i would try a PCP, one of each to satisfy both types, what a slippery slope!, then wanted to try a bolt action so got a S410, then a break barrel HW98, so all or most types cover, under lever, break barrel, PCP side lever and bolt action, job done happy bunny……. but then i fell in love with the Huntsman Regal bolt action. Really must stop looking at the sales section and You tube

So I’m thinking of having less but better so 3 or 4 out will pay for upgrades of the other 6.
:)

…but surely if we all start to promote this ‘less is more’ idea of thinning out the collection then who is buying the guns we are selling ?

We need to figure out how many working air rifles are in circulation and then estimate the current number of active enthusiasts and then issue a decree which insists we all own exactly the average per person at any one moment.

Anybody got any idea of the numbers we are talking about ?

A new to me Khamsin turned up this morning, I really am going to have to get rid of the PCPs.

Besides anything I need the scopes off them for springers.

I've given up trying to justify buying rifles. If i like it i'm having it. If i get bored of it, it's going. This is not the impression i give to my wife. She thinks i have a nice little cottage industry going, buying and selling. God knows how much i've spent and lost, but i'm having a cracking time doing it.

36 springers, 21 pcp’s, 4 pump up’s and 1 pistol. Really need to move a load on before my wife is left with a massive problem but I wouldn’t know where to start
This the biggest collection i have ever heard of, without someone actually owning a shop.
