As I mentioned in my other thread, one of my best mates has bought a rifle and has started shooting.

He’s asked me what’s the best type of bag to use on our plinking range? He has a hw97kt. As I’m not 100% sure I thought I’d ask here. I shoot off the bean bag seat, just letting my rifle rest in that. I also have these 2 bags which are much firmer. He Is looking to buy something. What’s the best advice for him?

A bag with a smaller contact area will be better with a springer. I use the BSA bag.

A hand on the bag, under the rifle, allows the recoil to work.
A silk sheet, doubled up, under the rifle is better

Have your mate Google " Paint roller rifle rest" , the yank fellas that use ' em , dig 'em. Cheap to build too.👍😊

All depends on what is in the bag and the power of the rifle . And weather its 22 or 177 .

This is not me being fun 🙂👍
Rifles all recoil differently. so what its rested on isequally as important as how you hold the rifle .
You must also take in to accout what the bag is made of to and how it will react with your stock . wood /resin what ever .
The rifle must be allowed to move/recoil otherwise any drag will give the rifle something to kick off .

Porta aim works for me , but needed to take some off the height. Spot on now.

I have a savage island bag but added extra foam for stability. Glue the zip shut as they leak polystyrene balls everywhere 👍

An arm rest I made to fit on a tripod for use with the .22 HW80 Mk1 which rests on my left palm with a light grip forearm in the rest.
A double skinned bag I ran up on my wifes sewing machine filled with hard plastic beads not soft ones it can be used with air or powder burners.

I shoot a hw77 with opens and get ok results. I use a big bean bag and rest the whole forend on it. I rest it directly on the bag and keep my left hand clenched under the tip of the Butt. The recoil looks after itself and the gun

slides well on the Nylon surface of the bag.

I find filling my shooting bag with plastic pellets sourced from ebay works best for me. Not too heavy and has just the right amount of give for a springer.

This type of rest setup works for me. Front & rear bags tightly packed with fine grain silica sand that provide stable support, without wiggling about.
