Best bench rest bag for a springer.

Baggy BSA, ie loose rice fill, and of course palm between rifle and bag.

The use of the palm is an art form of itself with springers, with finger pressure palm position as delicate and learnt as playing a piano.

As is the pistol grip pressure, with as many varieties and points of pressure as heinz (other brands are available) and combinations.

BSA bag with cat litter- the cheaper the better. I need a surface that lets me put a hand under the gun, as it feels better and lets you get used to the recoil. Know a guy who bought a lump of oasis (the flower stuff) that worked well till he forgot to take it home, got rained on, and when we got back it was a smudge on the table :)

Also know a guy who swears by silicone implants. I can see why they;d work well, but I wasnt really up to asking where or how he got them, so its a tale I'll never know!

I would get a porta aim. Easier to carry about and better to. I used mine many times and perfectly fine for springer use.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Not sure why, but I had it in my head (wrongly) that a tripod shape like porta aim was no good for a springer. I’m sure I read something saying don’t have a tripod with a springer, use a bipod.

The porta aim is on a cushion, placed on that and usual hold allowing the recoil, no issue . Bipods tend to not work very well(variable) as nothing to absorb.

I mainly use the bsa type you have, one is filled with bean bag fillings and other i have is filled with plastic bbs. I also have the cushion you have pictured thats like a bean bag all 3 work fine with my hand under the rifle or not

I also use somthing like the porta aim but I stick my primos v attachment on it with hand between rifle and the attachment

Thanks for all the input. When I was using the bsa bag, I was resting the gun on it without my hand. For the last few months I’ve been using the bean bag with my hand under the rifle. Back at the range today, I tried the bsa bag with my hand under and actually preferred that over the bean bag.

My friend tried the 3 we had and liked the bsa bag too, but I think he is tempted to get a porta aim.

I appreciate the help, I’m still learning myself so sometimes unsure when I’m advising others.

Don't forget a soft cover for it, as that's the essence of the paint roller rest - the soft napp of the cover.👍
Initial plan is hard core (pvc waste pipe) wrapped in a layer of rigid foam, layer of tape then I have some adhesive backed felt to cover it. I would have started earlier but I re designed the base unit to take interchangable heads

Looking forward to piccys & results/ take aways, from your initial trials.😊👍

As I said it is more an initial rough up, I have some roller bearings and another metre of felt on order. Although I suspect I should have saved time and used an actual paint roller. Vanity I suppose, I wanted it all to match.

Well.... Took it to the range today, and only took the higher of the two bases, so couldn'r get comfortable with it unless I was trying to shoot the lights out Homer face palm On the plus side I did realise one small improvement I can make before I try again next week.
