As I'm just entering the PCP world of target shooting I would like to hear from anyone who has shot benchrest with an air rifle. Previously I used a BSA martini action.22 rifle now I'd like to try it with an air rifle.

I like my Epic airguns Two in 700 mm barrel at the bench, they are nice heavy rifles, and of course accurate.
But never really shot much of the benchrest targets i have, probably as they are 50 yard papers and i rarely shoot shorter than 75 M

Try it with what youhave to begin with. I started with my HW100, then went to an AA HFT500 which is a popular choice.

People will come on here with all different suggestions of which rifle & pellet ect.
Save yourself a whole lot of time & cash.
Get a HFT500, shoot it with Shorts or QYS.

Unless you get a new one with the XTI barrel in which case you might find it prefers a diet of H&N.

It likes both Barracuda 8s (4.51) and Field Target Trophy (4.52) - seems to favour the cheaper H&N pellets which is odd.
As said above. Save a whole load of time and money. HFT500. Half the price of others, and just as accurate. In the right hands, more accurate. Easy

Agreed HFT 500 great starter rifle. The trigger however is crap and the gun is not regulated.

Correct. My S510R has a 10 mm barrel, my FTP900 a 14 mm barrel and the latest HFT500 a 16 mm barrel (the old has a 14 mm barrel)

Mine is an XTi barrel and it’s laser accurate with JSB shorts die 35 and the new die 68s. Less so with H&N but it does reasonably well with Barracuda 8s. It’s trial and error and while they all slightly differ, what’s consistent is that the HFT is absolutely fantastic and great value. I say that as someone that shoots one as well as a Steyr, Red Wolf and TM1000. It’s as accurate as any of them in the right hands. It’s the one gun I will never sell. Taught me to shoot in Benchrest.

Not sure I’ve heard anyone describe the trigger as crap before. Easily adjustable to set stages one and two. Also, some people use the biro spring trick for £1.00 and that also alters the trigger. Mine is fantastic and I’m trying to set up my Steyr so that it is as sensitive. In terms of regulated or not. That is the thing about HFT500s. They just work despite the fact that they are simple guns. Have a look at the rankings for the top Benchrest shooters and what they are using. There are more HFT500s in there than any other gun. When people refer to them as a good starter it does make me chuckle…..
