⚫️AirMaks Thread⚫️

1cc per ft lb is the figure most manufacturers use but I also suspect that will have an element of calibre dependency to it and general output area for example the 10m target rifles running at 6 ft lbs usually have 6cc plenums.
If you used the 60cc plenum at say 100 bar, the rifle at 12 ft lbs is barely going to notice after the trigger is pulled, so the reg will barely open and recharge will be very very slow, in some other rifles where things are really badly set up (not on an AirMaks it was another brand cant remember if it was turkish or chinese as long ago) you can have the reg not cycle after two or even three shots because of the differential not being low enough for the reg to actually open again, all of these big plenum adverts are designed for big power markets, not sub 12.

The other factor is that many folks will assume bigger is better, which is a sales ploy, like those pistols that say 510fps but dont tell you it was with a 2 grain plastic pellet, a suitably sized plenum makes the guns better which is why the factory followed my suggestion, AirMaks arent trying to push sales by saying "look at our big plenum" they are producing for multiple power markets and tailoring the product to suit.

Charge time on a 15cc plenum... errr not sure how I could really measure that accurately, needles sway, digi gauges are too slow so timing the reg cycle accurately would not be an easy task, but its fast, on the 60cc plenum you probably need a few seconds to get a reliable follow up shot so it does have benefit in the field.

The only reason to remove the plenum reducer is if you are taking the rifle to FAC in which case you need to change a bunch of other components, the reason to drop from 60 to 15cc is that its a suitable size for sub 12 guns,
Thanks for the response Chris and for expanding my very limited knowledge 👍

Mine was not as pretty🤣
guessing yours was just an internal packer like sub12's earlier one, hence not using the o rings etc to seal off the tube. cant say ive heard much complaint of ping on the krait, but does the factory plenum reducer make any noticeable difference to noise by the ear?

Hey Chris,

Any chance you could upload a vid of what's involved in a barrel conversion (.177 to .22 preferably)? I'm the kind of guy that really benefits from a visual guide.

No need to put the subsequent 'tune' in the vid (that way you can avoid any neg chat about power levels etc...)

Cheers!

Is it easy to remove the 15cc plenum plug of needed?
The reason is, I've ordered the 22 in sub 12 and if it is a rifle I really like and get on with, the plan is to add it to my FAC and take it up to about 30ftlbs.
I'd rather not have the plus to start with if I'm honest and wasn't aware of this change when ordering the rifle as it states 60cc on the site.
Many thanks

There is more than just removing the plug in the plenum. Be easier to sell and buy the FAC than swapping parts required.
Or add an FAC and keep the sub for closer quarters .

Just slightly annoyed that it's not made clear that it's a 15cc plenum as all websites state 60cc with no mention of an additional change. Even if the change is for the better, but even Chris states it's only usual in handful of situations, mainly if a quick follow up shot is needed. Other than that, even he has left his target rifles withouy the new additional plug.

I can’t speak for the overall decision, but for mag use and I can rattle them off fast now and then, it’s a benefit. For me it doesn’t matter what the plenum size is, just how it performs (I have the katran with eco mod and it is better overall, uses less air and just seems to shoot a little nicer).
Problem with AirMaks and AGT, maybe most others too! they are designed around FAC use. Which can make sub 12 uses(not always) not the most efficient . My uragan 2 is very air hungry but works great so leaving as is. The katran since the eco mod gains maybe 30 shots from a fill( katran c).
There is more to the FAC than just the plug, I don’t think it would be worth doing myself. Could trade the sub in or add the FAC. Once the sub goes FAC is will always be FAC in lead to believe (even if back to sub 12 power). Also looses a good bit of value to. Just food for thought . Chris will be able to sneezer in far better details. Congrats on the krait, awesome machine 😎👌🏻

Chris never said they were fitted to shop bought guns, just his own as a prototype.....

He said they are now fitted as standard from the factory, for a good few months. But this isn't mentioned on airmaks website, or anyone else's for that matter, they all state 60cc plenum. So it's also incorrect advertising?
It would jusy have been nice to
A: be aware this has changed.
B: have the option to have one fitted or not.

I've tried a Krait and wasn't anything I'd change, so ordered one, but it isn't the same as the one I tried but I wasn't aware of the change made.
So will it mean airmaks will remove the 60cc label off the rifle as well as off the advertisements?

It's not as advertised anymore and not the same as the rifle I tried that's around 6 months old.
I think it should be an OPTIONAL upgrade because no one has really complained or thought it was an issue when it was 60cc, as still advertised 🤷🏼‍♂️

Why don’t you just talk directly to whoever you have ordered through ? Whilst it’s all valid points you Seem to be getting yourself all worked up on here for no good reason really when a quick phonecall or email directly would likely resolve it in very quick time .
