PPE saved my eyes

Mine were for use in solders and oil. The solder was used at 320°c and oils at 130 - 150°c. If I remember correctly they were supplied directly from Frys, but I'm not 100% .
We had a few failures that were put down to being transported about, but when they started popping in the training school that was a different matter.
I'm 100% about how their failures came about though. My tutor had a direct line to the purchasing dept, and very very strong words were exchanged. The newer thermometers were called in for replacement.

Really glad you're OK and a thanks for giving us all a reminder of how quickly and unexpectedly it can all go south in a heartbeat 👍

PPE saves the day😀 I had a job producing microfiche and got laughed at for wearing my PPE until the thermostat went screwey on the ammonia tank. Glad your relatively ok Andrew 👍

So hows the blacking coming on . have you done it yet 🤣😂🤣😂
All done and packed away for this week. An HW80, A Falcon, two more Sauer 200's and a barrel tip & dip for a mates shotgun that's got a small rust patch.
(It might not be yours @the logun-ator )

I've had a HW35 turn up this morning for a full restoration and a BSA Merlin so that will be the next ones in there.

I always remember the photos they used to persuade us not to keep oily rags in your keks pocket.... It may be 'elf and safety - but it's not all bad!

Glad you were safe!

full PPE is a pain in the ass, everyone complains until they realise it’s worth. This is great advert for the right equipment at the right time.
Andrew I’m glad you were not complacent and had it on. 😎💪🏻

You’ll need armoured ppe when Mrs E gets you though ! 😵

Mate, honestly she's propoer pi**ed with me.

At work H&S regularly show shockingly graphic photos of damaged eyes and lacerated limbs (even to Office workers) as a reminder of what happens when correct PPE is not used.

Well done on using yours and glad to hear that you lived to tell the tale.
While my work like to show a bloke falling off a ladder, or chemical fires, things that just wouldn't happen to us in the machine shop, showing what happens to an eyeball when hit with hot metal or a piece of grinding disc/tooling should be compulsory viewing for an Apprentice.

An example of why we MUST wear correct PPE:
