New HW100 Release: HW100X

As I've got one on order and never owned a hw100 before can I just check that I understand this correctly?

Your advice is to insert the probe into the fill port first, then connect the whip? The removal I guess is reverse?

And it's like that because people are inadvertently putting leverage through the cylinder causing it to unwind?

Apols if that's a dumb question but I really want to make sure I get it right from the start......... When it eventually appears!

And that is why you need thie set up !

Hi Wardy,
I did a cylinder repair tutorial the other year, it’s in the stickies.

But you’re not far off. The reason is, if you insert the fill probe on the air lead, if it’s at an angle it won’t go in perfectly straight and you may take slithers off the O rings which get in the fill valve. The contamination in the fill valve is what creates the leak.

Filling practice - new or old gun if you don't insert the fill probe off the bottle air lead then you're going to get issues at some point. Get a Best Fittings quick coupler kit. I may be wrong and I apologise if this is the case, but I repair more HW100's with cylinder leaks than any other reason.
Not sure I follow. You're saying insert the fill probe before you connect it to the whip? I see the logic but I've never done it like this and not had problems like you describe before. I've had the quick coupler kit from Best Fittings for many years.

The only other leaky gun I've had in 20 years was my first HW100S, which was a mk.1 without the quick fill. You had to remove the cylinder and screw it onto the dive bottle to fill. I used to keep the cylinder slightly unscrewed or it would lose pressure. A few years later I got a quickfill cylinder for it.

EDIT: just read your post above, I see now, thanks.

That’s exactly it Adam. The HW100’s at Pete’s Airgun Farm, often had the same issue, I was forever doing cylinder repairs, that and trigger springs. Pete’s staff were quick to cotton on and gave guidance and instructions to people hiring the guns so the issue diminished.

The old ones with no quickfill were a different issue, the inlet/regulator valve O ring use to wear prematurely due to the cylinder going on and off the rifle, Weihrauch soon upgraded it to the current quick fill design.

It's a possibility Adam. I had a week old gun with a cylinder leak and it had slithers of O ring in the valve.
Wow not good. So looks like it'll have to go back but before then is there anything that's worth trying as a quick fix? I'm thinking like completely empty the cylinder then refill?

It probably won’t make any difference, it may be a temporary fix, but if there’s dirt in there it’s likely to foul the valve again.

Well dammit my brand new HW100X has a slow leak!
Picked it up last Saturday, it's shot about 300-400 pellets. Topped up to about 220 bar last weekend. Now down to about 147.
Mine too. Don't think mine has a leak, but I'm only getting 70-80 shots before power drops. Cylinder still has 130 bar in. Lovely gun though. Returned to shop to get sorted.

Hi All,
Well, mine went to the club Tuesday evening and it was spot on, I certainly have no accuracy worries.

As you will have seen, my X has a nice little Vortex Diamondback 2-8 x 32 on it, as a hunting scope it’s perfect, but it has its limitations for target shooting. My new Rapid has a Falcon X50 10-50 x 60, very much suited to target shooting. The X wasn’t far off the Rapid.

In fact I was shooting pellet holes, when I had shot my targets, four groups of three, all through the same hole.

Consistency wise it’s running at 11.6-11.7 with Heavy’s. I only put a few shots through it at the farm when I sighted it up, then prior to going to the club I did a shot string over the chrono, first shot was slightly high, then it settled as above. It’s now had a good run in as a few of the club members had a go with it and it’s settled well.

Overall I’m really pleased with it, accuracy is excellent, consistency is as good as you'd expect, if not better, but the thing that really stands out is the handling, the cylinder change has really made a massive difference. Dare I say it, but it handles better than my two titanium tube full length HW100’s, the small scope might influence that of course, so we’ll see when I put something bigger on it.

Mine stills balances nicely with a Whopping Falcon T50i + on it 😂 I noticed a couple of high outputs after it had been sat for a week or two but settled well and almost adjusts to the weight of pellet that comes out of it 🤔

What mounts did you go for with the Falcon? I'm thinking of getting one to go with the rifle...... When it appears

WULF Tactical 34mm Rifle Scope Mount Rings w Bubble Level Weaver/Picatinny HIGH. From Tactical Scope £35.99 a pair, sitting on a Eaglevisioncam 200mm Picatinny rail (The Future 😉). And that good of a rail, ive put one on my 97k too for when rhe next Falcon comes for it instead of the gash AIRMAX 6-24x50 FFP🐼🫵🏻the T50i+ wipes the floor with a Hawke!
PS think mounts available as Dovetail too...tbc

I'm strongly leaning towards a similar shade HW77K or Long to match the X 🙄 in similar Laminate... just gorra decide L or K length as I have a 97K already...fancy a bit of Old Skool to put under the tuning cycle in our workshop....
I'm blaming @1260engineer 😬😉

Excellent, thanks! I'd prefer dovetail, mostly because I don't like the sound of securing a rail with a grub screw, I'd be worried about scoring the dovetail.

I shoot with a airmax wa 8-32x50 currently which serves a purpose but the hw100x deserves more I think.
