Restless legs syndrome

@Zebb

I have suffered with this for years.

I have a friend in France and she recommended Jouvence Gelee Ultra Fresh and sent me some. It was incredibly soothing and cooling and really helped. (https://www.cocooncenter.co.uk/jouv...SiHSmpbi4-hclCnlMG2GzBFxOQPon37prHKIKLUc-0ZS0). This was massively beneficial in getting a good nights sleep.

However, I then went to a sports massage therapist and they identified the problem to be related to very tight calf muscles. They gave my legs a good seeing to and that helped fix the problem.

It does come back now and again, funnily enough, I had it the other night. But this is often when I have been sitting at my desk for ages and not exercising. I bought a massager with a vibrating head and I run that up and down the calves, especially the sides of the lower leg to release all the tension and that will fix the problem again for ages.

Good luck with your legs.

Rob

Thank you for the link and feedback. All very helpful info.
Just had my first night on increased pregabalin dose. Wake up and straight away reaching out for deepfreeze gel to apply to legs, realised I had no burning sensation.!!! 😎😎😎 First time in 3 months. Looked at the time and I'd slept 5 hours straight. This could be just a fluke and tonight it will all be a nightmare again. But hopefully the pregabalin might be working. This drug has a half life probably around 6-7 hours. So I'm going to add tablet in-between the two dose times. I'll get permission from doctor at a later date. 🧐.

Though the main test will be going out walking and see if I pay the price later as exercise made my restless legs worse. Doctors tell me 440mg per day max but they have no one on their books anywhere near that. (Yet) So seems this drug is popular and efficient. Added bonus seems to have helped my arthritis too. Pregabalin is a just a nerve blocker, So if it works that's great. Time will tell.

Great news @Zebb, good to hear. I’ve now upped my dose to 3 a day and boy am I paying the price. Ninety minutes after taking it I’ll crash out for 30-40 minutes but it’s only 25mg a tablet, God knows what 440mg would do to me. Good luck for the future

The sleepy bit will pass. I'm on ,150 a day but need a tablet half way through and a bit more over night. But I will leave it another week or so before talking to docs. Hope it works for you.

How have you been the last two nights @Zebb . I know how absolutely awful this can be , its torture . I've done many nights without sleep due to it . Combine that with the odd bouts of insomnia when I had no RLS ( 5 days and nights without even 1 minute of sleep was my worst episode ) and it was an horrendous time that went on for 18 months or so at its worst . Funnily enough having a personally terrible start to this year through one thing and another seems to have got rid of both for now , shocked out of me perhaps . Pregabalin does work miracles for RLS , it did for me anyway. I hope its working for you.
Sugar , caffeine and alcohol definitely made it worse for me.

Get a REVITIVE....takes it away in a few minutes........the thing Ian Botham advertises on TV.......not cheap £300+ but it works especially for restless legs. I had it but not any more.

I did have it for several years up until a couple of years ago. Pretty much guaranteed lying in bed and it would start and it messed with my sleeping. Weirdly, it's has much reduced fairly seldom. Not gone completely but certainly isn't the nightly occurrence it was and I've no idea why it came or why it's gone. 🤷‍♂️

My partner suffered with RLS for years. The doctor got her hooked on Pregabalin, it was awful she was seriously addicted to Pregabalin at just 32 years old, she gained loads of weight and ended up with depression. We got her to do rehab and and changed her lifestyle. She was back in gym 5 times a week, swimming and water exercise classes 2/3 times a week, got all her nutrition in order including blood work every 3 months. She's now 43 and life is good and no RLS. Lifestyle changes and diet have work for her. Its awful to see someone up all night, night after night with RLS. I don't think people understand how bad it can be unless you've lived with it or seen it first hand.

Thanks all for replying. I'm on 150 mg per day of pregabalin at the moment, I think it needs to be 300mg. Tonight isn't very good though been out driving and garden centre. So with mine any Exercise makes it worse. 1 am is the worst time of night. I'm getting up at 4am most nights . Sorry to hear so many have had it. It's really annoying and painful. No idea why I got it all of sudden. I'd just had started in June legs cramps too. So taking quinne for that. Which works very well. But they say no link different issue.? Hope hospital scan is soon, could always be some kind of PAD problem.? I've walked 5 miles a day since 2004 then this August got RLS. 🙄 Again thanks for the feedback. It's appreciated.

i have it about 3 or 4 times a week and have often wondered if it was down to the heart meds i am on, i never had it till i had heart surgery,

Just wondering if anyone on here has the same condition. All be it I have had the occasional restless leg.. ie need to keep moving to stop the sensation, I now have it 24/7 at rest. Normally intense burning sensation in leg muscles. I'm.just starting on Pregabalin still on a low dose. Exercise makes it worse.. just asking for tips of tricks no sleep for months isn't easy to deal with. Thank you for and help. I do use deepfreeze gel.
Yes, mine's related to spinal probs needing two surgeries over the last few years. Amitriptyline. Though tbh I think it's a placebo for me. Only a problem at night. Sometimes I get up and cold flannel the legs.

I'm sorry to hear you have this. There are different symptoms to it, many have the symptom with of major urge to move legs to release tension/ pain. Mine is 24/7 and strong burning sensation, though the intensity varies day by day/ night. I'm still having tests for different things. I'm still eliminating other meds I'm on incase it's them aggravating mine. I used to get the pain/ urge legs symptoms but haven't had that for many a year. My blood pressure increased in the last 4 months, I was hoping once that was under control this might go away. But it hasn't. I've been awake since 1am this morning again. So it's just another day of a nightmare.

Hope you find the answer to yours. Get tested for magnesium and iron. Lots find this the answer.

I take gabapentin which is the same thing, 600mg , three times a day, for other issues but found it does help with restless leg syndrome
Wow that's a lot.! I'm hoping doctors put mine up this tues. ? Should do they like to increase the dose slowly. Sorry to hear of your issue.

I find the deepfreeze gel helps. I'm guessing it's just a distraction more than a help in cooling the legs.

believe me when i say i have been tested lol, my arm has looked like a pin cushion, my heart doc thinks it might be down to the metal heart valves. everyone seems to have lost interest now though so it looks like i am stuck with it, meds that are out there can muck my heart meds up so i miss out on many meds that others can take. bummer!!!!!!!

I didn’t know this was a thing until a few years ago. I’ve suffered from it on and off all my life.
As you do, I didn’t share it with anyone, typical bloke thing I know-stupid too. Anyways one of the lads in work told me his missus suffers with it, I asked a few questions to him and he explained what it was, was like a eureka moment! I can deal with it without medication but some nights it’s a right mare! Don’t think mines bad enough to warrant meds but feel for you guys and gals that must have it a lot worse than me. I find if I tense my leg muscles as hard as I can and hold it for 10 seconds and repeat until my legs are absolutely knackered it allows enough relief to hopefully fall asleep before it kicks off again.
