0630 yesterday morning arrived at @Scoie manor to find Craig waiting outside all eager for the off. Two and half hours driving later plus a stop for eats, coffee and a much needed visit to the gents we arrived at @Hmangphilly's.

Lots of coffee, bacon and egg wedges, natter and larfs later we departed with an assortment of 9 barrels that we (me, Craig and @Nords) had ordered. There was a fair assortment all for FX Crowns.
  • 2 x 340mm 0.177 HFT 500 with Mr Philly shroud and barrel inlet
  • 2 x 300mm 0.177 CZ with Mr Philly shroud and barrel inlet (one of which is an experimental test bed that Mr Philly has designed and made)
  • 1 x 500mm 0.177 FX Liner and shroud converted to Mr Philly anti POI shift technology system
  • 1 x 500mm 0.177 HFT 500 with Mr Philly shroud and barrel inlet
  • 1 x 380mm 0.30 FX liner in a full Mr Philly shroud kit with anti POI shift technology system
  • 1 x 600mm 0.25 FX liner in a full Mr Philly shroud kit anti POI shift technology system
  • 1 x 500mm 0.177 FX liner in a full Mr Philly shroud kit anti POI shift technology system

Here's my 340mm HFT 500 (pictures of my other barrels will follow as I sort through and fit).

Next job is strip this, check if I LoutWork'ed it before shoving it in the loft many months ago and set it up.

I expect Craig will be along at some point to show off his new barrels and maybe even tell you about the difference between a 380mm and a 600mm 0.25 barrel on an FAC Crown .

Thanks to Mr Philly for a magic day out. Really enjoyed it.

hi

Dreamline owner with a straw liner here...

The solid barrel kits

Are they free floating barrels? Is it a active shroud?

or is the barrel straight through and threaded for a mod.

You mention barrel inlets but they look oem. Is it oem with a proper barrel machined in?

Will these become available for mere mortals?

@FX take note!

thanks

Why not ask the man himself ?
https://airgunforums.co.uk/threads/phillys-shed.138658/

I also recently received an HFT 500 barrel for my Impact M4, what a difference.
Like many others on here Phil takes great pride in his work.

Thanks I missed that new thread. I've over the years asked in the tech sub forum. Not directly to a particular individual. No response.

If carlsberg made fx barrels they’d ask Mr Philly to do it

The .25 Fac crown with just a barrel change from a 380mm liner to 600mm liner resulted in a 10ft/lb increase in muzzle energy . 42 to 52 ft/lb with 33.95 grain jsb kings

No reg or hammer change from the initial set up , will test it first for accuracy and consistency before thinking of changing anything

On the sub 12 in 177 going from a 500mm liner down to a 340mm hft barrel energy want from 11ft/lb with heavies down to 9.4 ft//bs again with no adjustments

The solid barrel kits...................
Phil machines a solid barrel.

Screw cuts the mod thread. Crowns/recrowns the barrel as required.

For the FX Crown he machines the leade end to match the FX connector piece and machines a new leade. If you want he makes a new barrel inlet (the brass bit) to screw onto the solid barrel.

He makes a new cone piece to fit the Crown block and take the solid barrel with a seat for a carbon fibe tube. Machines a carrier for the other end of the CF tube to fit at the crown end.

It's a solid barrel, not sure what you mean by "floating".

A standard FX inlet will fit but normally I get Phil to make mine.

Not an active shroud, just a cosmetic part.

Anybody can place an order with Phil. Whether he has the capacity or not is another matter.

Some close ups of my 300mm LW done by Phil, might give you a better idea. This one is a Huma barrel inlet.

To be clear that is to be expected when fitting a shorter barrel because the pellet only accelerates whilst there is air expanding behind it. The shorter the barrel the less time available for acceleration. If you fit a longer barrel the power will rise.

Any change of barrel will probably require a retune.

Wow 😍🤩🤤 very very nice 💪

I'd love to meet Mr philly I've got a couple of ideas for my needs 😊 cough alpha precision.

My experience with the liner system has been good however also have a BSA barrel on one and that is absolutely superb, FX are a great gun the barrels tho are hit and miss (no pun intended)

Hi Mr Wah
the shrouds on the solid barrels are mainly cosmetic . I guess they do add a little stiffness though .
Shrouds on the liner systems are braced at intervals internally . I usually finish the barrel liner inside the end cap which is bored and treaded at the same time to keep the liner and mod fitting as concentric as possible . As such the shroud on most of my braced liner systems is not active in any silencing role .

I did actually drop a little clanger in this bunch and converted a std 500mm liner and shroud of @sagalout to a braced and back vented system.
I left the shroud full length which is slightly longer than the liner , spaced the end support short of the end to leave an air gap and vented the support pieces .

It wasnt what Andy wanted but he is going to test it for shift and accuracy and report back . I do know it's quite quiet with sliencer on the end . Not amazing without , but it takes a bit of the crack away .

I guess thats as close as i will get to a floating liner . I really prefer the end of the barrel to be supported .

Happy to chat .
Best drop a pm sent post in Philly's shed then were all on the right side of the rule

A few component parts for you here

I’ll do a build thread at some point for anyone interested

Here's the 500mm HFT 500 on it's new home.

I’m not sure that looks long enough!!! 😆

I understand ‘floating barrel’ as only connected by the action’s grub screws (which it is and normal FX barrels are too - the difference being Phil’s are more rigidly held by the shoud). Non-floating would have a clamp around the barrel and end of the bottle like my Daystate…

Yep, thinking that Phil needs to add another 300mm to that barrel! 😆
