Shooting Tripod Recommendations

I have this, when needed- behind right knee & over top of left thigh...makes a dead stable rest in the field, when ambushing quarry, static.

I use a Manfrotto tripod with the BogPod Deathgrip, not the lightest of setups (wish I'd still got my carbon Manfrotto) but I don't drag it round the fields so no problem.
The Deathgrip has 1/4" & 3/8" screw holes should you want to fit it to an QR plate, I've done this on occasion then fitted it to my Primos trigger sticks but it's not as stable as the tripod.

Also @Jimmypie did all the research as he has said on the old forum. I followed it closely because I was after a tri pod set up. Once Jim bought his I knew it must be good because I trust what he says about kit.

Yes it's a fair few quid and I've added the pig staddle to it too but it's a buy once and just use it. It's lightweight but rock solid once it's set up and mine has been used many times but looks new still. It's one of the best bits of kit I've bought for my PCP's

So you bought the Death Grip Ultralite? That one has threads in it. What I can't work out is if the standard death grip tripod set also has threads, because it comes on a big, heavy mounting system. I've not found anything saying it also has standard threads on it.

Thanks, mate. I think I'm probably leaning towards what you and Jimmypie have. I've got a bad back, so even though I wouldn't be carting the tripod around loads, less weight is always good. Would it be fine with FAC rifles, do you think? I'm guessing steady enough for air and rimfire, but would it cope with a hunting cartridge?

Ive bought myself the saber Tact picatinny to arca short. This i found was less hassle than a clamp and is a much lighter solution to clamp to my tripod

I have the Spartan Sentinel Woodland tripod and use it for when I am covering a lot of ground of a night and in place of shooting sticks. Its expensive but very very good. https://www.baileysshooting.co.uk/Spartan_Sentinel_Tripod_-_Woodland_(Tall)/p4800233_21162340.aspx.
You do get what you pay for and I use this tripod most times that I am out shooting

However I was looking out for something I could use in a more stationary situation and one that I could clamp my rifle in a set position and which wouldnt cost a fortune.

I came across these KF Concept tripods after researching tripods on some photography sites
and
.
There are many others to view but we can all agree that photography equipment isn't cheap so these photography types aren't going to stick their cameras onto something that isn't going to do its job.

I bought this:
https://www.kentfaith.co.uk/tripods/Carbon-Fiber-Tripods/KF09.093_Carbon Professional Tripod Monopod with 360 Degree Ball Head.

Find a coupon code and you can save like I did up to £17 off bringing the price below £100 for a carbon tripod.

I already had the Bogs rifle clamp https://spares.bagnallandkirkwood.c...h-grip-ultralight-shooting-sticks-head-clamp/. So I could use that on the ball head of this tripod as it is a standard Arca Swiss adapter on the clamp

So all in for the clamp and tripod( with coupon code) gets you a set up for below £200. The tripod comes with an Arca Swiss Plate so it can fit to most devices to hold a rifle in place.

There are other clamps on the web but be careful as the one I had that was 3d printed had only the one jaw that moved so that it clamped the rifle off centre to the tripod. It also squeaked like a bugger when tightening it up with it being plastic.

I also have the Sentinel Arca Swiss adapter plate to mount the tripod onto my existing spartan fittings on my rifle. https://www.baileysshooting.co.uk/product/spartan-precision-acra-stud

For those with MLok or Picatinny rails then adapters can be had from may different places.

The KF concept carbon tripod is excellent for the money. Extremely well made and rigid. Easy to set up and small enough when folded to stick in a back pack. The ball head clamps with a 1/4 turn screw and will hold my 5kg(10lb) .223 set up solidly in place while I am using my spotting scope with no worry about it tipping over. The 3 position leg angles allow it to be set up for those sitting down sessions when a nice shooting seat is in order.

A shooting friend and game keeper has the aluminium version and he is very impressed with his

Aluminium is a lot cheaper too and not that much to tell between the weights either This one can set up higher so may suit the taller shooter.
Again use the coupon codes.(https://www.dealdrop.com/kf-concept-china or https://www.wethrift.com/kandf-concept) there are may other sites its just case of trying the codes at the check out stage.

3 year warranty if you buy it off the Kent Faith site.

I have also used it mounted with my binoculars for observing Jupiter this past week. Again very solid for this work too.

Do not be worrying about the Orange. Its not a Blase Orange beloved of our over the pond cousins to stop them slotting each other, but more of a burnt orange. Put it this way in day light and at night I have not had rabbit, rat or fox complaints about the colour scheme.

I am in no way affiliated to KF concepts just a very satisfied customer.

I tried the Primos Trigger sticks but just could not get on with them so they my be making an apperanace in the sales section soon

Would it be fine with FAC rifles, do you think? I'm guessing steady enough for air and rimfire, but would it cope with a hunting cartridge?

Hi, I only shoot sub 12 but I'm sure it would take fac air and rim fire. It's a quality bit of kit but double check the info on it to see if fac stuff is ok

Yes mine's the ultralight.
Maybe try calling someone like James at OPW for clarification on the threaded question as they're listing both an aluminium and carbon version of the Bog Death Grip tripod

Thanks for the excellent reply/info. I'll definitely have a look into that site. Lots to digest from this thread!

More than capable , lots of reviews around but give scott country a call :)

You can really go to town on these set-ups, spend an absolute fortune if you want to. There were some excellent threads on the old site, sadly now lost.

IMHO, ARCA is by far the most secure and easily adjustable fixing system for a tripod/bipod and I have gone to ARCA rails on all my rifles. Having said that, fixed isn’t always better and some kind of front bag sat on top of the tripod can be useful and allows for better recoil management in some situations.

Carbon fibre tripods are really sturdy and lightweight these days and some of the Chinese offerings are really excellent quality. I’ve handled the Rekon CT-3 at Shot Show and this seemed like a really good solution, nice sized, lightweight tripod and a nice quality ball head. You can buy something of similar design/quality in one of the generic Chinese combos off Amazon for cheaper (Innorel and the like).

Think carefully about the height of tripod you will need, depending on your height, the style of shooting and whether you will shoot off sloping or uneven ground.

I’ve found the style of tripod with a centre column to be much less stable than those without. Similarly, I wouldn’t go above 4 leg sections as more introduces flex and become a real pain to adjust.

My friend from the US was here for the weekend, took him for lunch in exchange for him acting as courier for my latest addition…

…one seriously solid bit of kit 🙂.

I'm sure 260rips aka Mark Ripley used the same setup on his channel, shooting .223 and his custom .260 off it with no problem at all.

Am I right thinking these are only worthwhile with pcp guns due to the ease of reloading?
Have a 97K but wonder if it would be a waste of time
