Just seen this. If a gun based Channel has Firearms or Firearms accessories sponsors on the videos, they could get the channel terminated .

I can see some channels disappear soon and only posting on other platforms such as Pepperbox.tv that a lot have started posting on .

Oh dear, guess that means the peckerwoods who live in the hills with too many guns will have to earn their money another way.
American You-tube gun culture is crazy anyway, unfortunately (perhaps) if that knocks on to matey in his shed with banners on the wall and product reviews so be it.

Never heard of Pepperbox TV 🤔
It's been started by a number of current YouTube channels as an alternative to YouTube. They own it so they can post what they want ( within reason) and it does not have Youtube's flip flop censorship.

At one time some Gun Channels were going to Porn Hub ( Yes thet really did ) as they were in fear of being removed .

Some airgun channels got removed and some got back on but not them all.

That is why Giles started his own platform .

His channel got removed but he appealed and got it back .

AAR could possibly be hit by it if he says he is sponsered by a company who makes accessories or Firearms I assume . That may please some of his haters .

Matt at Demolition Ranch was getting strikes on videos he posted not long after he started. They were OK at the time but not now so he like others had to make them private or go through them and edit them or face strikes .

Matt will be getting hammered with reports at present due to the Trump shooter wearing his Demolita T shirt . I can see Matt getting a lot of strikes unless his YouTube Rep can see its a false mass reporting spree .

As far as I see it..and I've been familiar with the monetisation policies for a while now

If you had a video sponsorship or were linking direct sales, you had to select the paid promotion or not monetize the vid. Now if that was firearms related content the video wasn't able to be monetized anyhow. The sponsor would take care of the money. What this ofcourse meant was yt wasn't serving adds on a lot of content. They were effectively hosting the content but not making any revenue themselves(on non monetized content)

I get the feeling this is less about gun control and more about money... When isnt it

The new rules appear to have been simplified somewhat. But as per usual there's not an apparent clear list of what can and can't be advertised.

I should imagine things like scopes and other things like shooting clothing and that sort of thing will be ok
Time will tell.

According to ChatGPT:
YouTube's updated firearms policy, which focuses on restricting content related to firearms manufacturing, modifications, and sales, is primarily aimed at traditional firearms rather than airguns. However, these changes could still indirectly affect airgun channels in several ways:

1. **Content Scrutiny**: Airgun channels may experience increased scrutiny under the broader enforcement of YouTube’s policies. Videos that involve modifying airguns or using them in a way that mimics firearms could be flagged for review, potentially leading to demonetization or removal.

2. **Algorithmic Impact**: YouTube’s algorithm may become more sensitive to keywords and content related to guns in general. As a result, airgun channels might find their content being more frequently reviewed or demoted in search results and recommendations, even if they don't violate the policies directly【13†source】【14†source】.

3. **Policy Interpretation**: The interpretation of what constitutes a violation can vary, and overzealous application of the policy might inadvertently affect airgun content. This means channels will need to be more cautious about their content descriptions, tags, and even the visuals they use to avoid potential issues【12†source】.

4. **Community Guidelines Updates**: As YouTube continues to update its community guidelines, airgun channels will need to stay informed and adapt to ensure compliance. This could involve altering the way they present information about airguns, especially if discussing topics like power modifications or high-powered air rifles which could be seen as bordering on firearms-related content【20†source】【21†source】.

Overall, while the policy is not directly targeting airgun channels, the ripple effects of increased regulation and scrutiny in the broader firearms category could still pose challenges for these content creators. Channels will need to stay vigilant and possibly adjust their content strategies to remain within YouTube’s guidelines.

Yet the stupid youth of today can do these stupid prank vids, where they do something to get a negative reaction ,only to say "no its a prank" some have been beat up ,well deserved others have had weapons pulled on them.

Slipperly slope, and Jerry M and Hickock 45 (retired teacher and reserve duputy), plus gun Jesus of course are far from "peckerwoods".

Some of the anti gun loons I have met would consider you a 100% Neo Nazi borderline terrorist for even being a member of a gun forum, let alone owning one or more.

It's all degrees you see, what one person thinks is normal is hated by another.

perhaps you missed the movie quote?

It is not clear how the new rules will affect gun trade which have YouTube channels, nor is it clear how strictly YouTube will enforce the rules outside the USA, nor whether they apply only to private sales of guns, semi-auto centrefires or 'modified' firearms.

The rules have already been in place for a month and we have had no problems. It is clear that YouTube is trying to make America safe from homemade guns and backyard bombmakers, not trying to end the sport of shooting.

If you would like to take short-term action, we recommend:

‣ Link to your retail or wholesale webpages in a more creative way from your films, i.e. instead of saying ‘link below for more details’ in your videos, say ‘Google my company/product for more details’.
Register your business with Google so that it shows up in Google Search results as an info panel. Info panels have their own links. For example, we believe YouTube may prefer us to link to https://g.co/kgs/Sj8wa9L rather than https://ianhodgefieldsports.co.uk

‣ Alternatively, you can share a Google search link (best to shorten it to a Bitly link) such as https://bit.ly/rtiho instead of http://www.highlandoutdoors.co.uk/RTI...

‣ Go back over your YouTube channel, edit your films' descriptions and swap out links to gun retail pages for these new links – especially descriptions for films you have put up since 18 June 2024. Or wait until YouTube starts doing something and do it then.
