Wouldn’t be seen dead in Aldi or Lidl…!

Me too 🤩.

I completely embarrassed my sister one time by diving into a skip and retrieving a lovely piece of oak!

Well l couldn’t let that go now could l 🤷‍♂️?
Funnily enough, I have a large slab of oak I rescued from a skip round the corner. Haven't really done much with it yet, but it was too good to scrap.

My ex-mate had such a fragile ego, he would not shop in any discount store, and certainly not in a charity shop. He didn't even like being seen to donate stuff to charity shops! He would wait until night time and leave it by their door, in case anyone might see him actually enter the shop....

I've a Tesco, Morrisons, Aldi and Lidl, all within 15 minutes drive, as well as a Food Warehouse (Iceland). I normally buy a similar shop-load month after month and it's interesting to see the difference in prices. Tesco is normally the most expensive, with Morrisons about £10-15 cheaper. Then there's Aldi, which is about £20 cheaper, again. I'm a sucker for some 'branded' stuff, which means I'll go to Morrisons as Aldi will only have their own version.
I like a Morrisons, they used to do cured bacon ribs on there hot food counter, they were lovely!

Ah, they're all the same to me - a shop is a shop. Most of the stuff in packets, tins and jars are probably all made in the same place anyway 🤷

I haven't seen a KwikSave since I was a kid. Is Happy Shopper stuff with the smiley face still around? 😄

I shop there for food not often but do purchase tools had one of there pressure washers for over 7 years got a slight leak easy fix but thought time to upgrade so bought there new version nice bit of kit going to pass the other on to a friend to make use of i may fix the faulty small Oring before i hand it over may leave as he like tinker with things keeps him busy.

Anyone who looks down on Lidl has never tried the bakery section, their croissants are far and away the best of any supermarket and I used to work with a couple of Portuguese lads who said their pastel de nata (traditional Portuguese custard tarts) were the best they had had outside Portugal. I was also told that at least some of their yogurts are Muller ones at about 60% of the price (apparently if you check the SKU number they are the same)

Full disclosure we do out main shop in Tesco but we usually go to the Lidl across the road for a few bits as well. Used to use Asda but that went way downhill when Walmart pulled out, the prices went up as fast as the quality went down.

I'm the opposite you wouldn't catch me dead in Louis Vuitton or Harrods.

I'm the same now - I just don't like feeling like I'm having my pants pulled down by over inflated prices. I won't ever buy from Costa Packet either because I don't like their prices for a slap dash sandwich and a crap cuppa 🤷

I know two people who are exactly that, and wouldn’t be seen within a mile of an Aldi or Lidl store for fear of being seen 🫣!

No amount of trying to convince them that they are now legitimate supermarkets as good, if not better than, the big three and no longer look like the old Kwiksave! I can’t even tempt them in with a description of the middle isle 🤷‍♂️.

Personally we love Aldi. The quality of their food etc has vastly improved and prices are still better than the others.

Have you come across people who won’t be seen dead in either? Or maybe that’s you as well? Come on own up 🤣.
Love the place, puts good food in reach of the masses

We regularly use Lidl and Aldi, both are less than 10 minutes away which is handy.

The usual frustrations of never to be seen again bargains is always there but the plus's definitely outweigh the negatives.

As for the centre aisle, I do seem to have more of Lidl's Parkside power tools than Aldi's Ferrex.

We also use Farm Foods for frozen stuff and bulk household items, it actually took over an old Aldi store when they built a much larger shop locally.

Aldi is good but not always cheap. Price matching elsewhere for major items is advised.
Sainsbury products,"Price matched to Aldi", makes me suspect some Aldi products are "Price matched to Sainsburys".
Tesco is my least favourite. On a number of occasions price at till failed to match displayed price. Discrepancy spotted due to small spend but in a £100 plus trolley, stiffening the price by a few pounds might have gone through unnoticed. Mistakes have always favoured the store
Waitrose extra large chicken, @£6.00, ( with 20% off), tempted me to venture through their doorway today.

We used to shop mainly in Tesco's but swapped to Sainsbury's because we were passing that more often than Tesco. We have popped into Lidl and Aldi as and when we have needed to with out embarrassment or fear of being seen, we also shop at M&S, Waitrose and Morrisons but I absolutely draw the line at Asda, whenever we have been in our (not so local) store they have never had what we went in for.
We love using Lidl and Aldi when we are in Spain too, their produce is very good and it's like walking into fridge when it is very hot outside. I love the eclectic mix of items in the middle aisle of both shops.

I have used other Spanish/French supermarkets like Carrefour, Mercadona and Le Clerk, They offer all sorts of stuff from burger buns to car tyres.

We use Lidl a lot, Aldi less often, and Morrisons if we also need fuel.

When we lived 'down South' (Berkshire) we mostly shopped at Sainsburys or Tesco, but those barely exist up here! Lidl or Aldi required a special trip but we did use them sometimes for stuff you couldn't easily get elsewhere (my wife is German).

GUILTY we shop at lidl and aldi about every 6 weeks we go to asda and stock up on certain items we can't get in either shop, middle isle in both i have a shed full of scrrews plugs tools etc etc and i don't give a shyte who see's me, only gripe fruit and veg not as fresh as i would like it to be. saves me money for pellets and bits an bobs.

Tesco is my least inconvenient supermarket (20 min journey away) There is a Co Op within five minutes walk, but even when I was paying for the bus, it was cheaper to do a big shop in Tesco, as the savings more than covered the return bus fare. Now the bus is free, there is no contest, but I will still pop up to Co Op for single items, or their sliced bread. Not because it is particularly good or cheap, but simply because it's the same size as my toaster! In an ideal world, I would shop at Morrisons, but they are a 40+min ride away.

We use Sainsburys 'click & collect' service for about 2/3 weekly shop & then top up at Aldi in the same retail park. Over time the Sainsburys order is getting smaller and the Aldi shop is growing larger. We now get much of our fresh food, dairy, meat, fruit and vegetables from Aldi. My wife prefers the Aldi cheese. My only criticism of Aldi is they don't always carry the same products for very long, we just get used to something then it disappears from the shelves.

We do our weekly shops in Aldi as they do some lovely stuff in there and it's alot cheaper. However it does get a bit samey and some things cannot be bought there, I do much prefer Sainsbury's for certain things but there's no way I'd do a weekly shop there it just costs way too much, although I have noticed that they are doing a bit better to compete on prices as of late.
