Everyone must have had a lemon at one time. Mine was this Ruger Mark 1 which I picked up for a song. Totally unmarked and as new, so I thought I'd got a bargain.. I don't know where they're made, Taiwan perhaps.
Out on my 10m range I tried a few shots at my 14cm targets with the rear sight in the mid position, missed completely, so I moved to 5m, still missed. I put up a sheet of cardboard about a metre square and tried again at a centre spot at 10m. The shot still missed, so I tried aiming at the top, and wow, the pellet just clipped the bottom, a full one metre low! I adjusted the rear sight to max but it still hit half a metre low.
None of this was helped by the heaviest trigger I've ever known...
Back in the workshop I could see the problem, a straightedge along the barrel showed a distinct downward slope. After much fettling with the breech catch and retaining pin I've got it to close a little lower and tighter, but with the barrel/breech being a plastic moulding with a steel barrel insert, it's never going to be ideal. As for the trigger, I've managed to get it a little smoother.
Aim at the top of a can now and it'll hit the bottom, as good as it gets..
Anyone else had a lemon?
