Worn Leatherette

Got a nice old wooden case that came with a '60's Webley pistol.
The covering is black leatherette, marked & worn. Also 'sticky', sometimes the lid needs prising open.
Anyone have any tips for touching up the marks, or reducing the stickiness?
Tried a marker pen on a discreet corner, but is has an annoying sheen.
Considering a silicone spray to reduce the sticky feel.

Hmmm, sounds temptingly like an original Webley rexine case? If so, I’d initially try a soft, lint free cloth, with a dilute solution of washing up liquid and water. Make sure you wring out the cloth well. Use small circular motions to clean the case. You don’t want to soak it.

A colour matched felt pen is fine for touch-ups, then a decent quality shoe crème - again applied with a small circular motion using a soft cloth. Leave to dry and buff with a soft (velvet is ideal) pad.

Hopefully the stickiness will subside, but unfortunately it happens when the rexine starts to break down.

Sadly probably not Webley…but 99% sure it’s rexine cloth covering. Go for it, but be gentle when cleaning. Also test the pens on the inside rim for colour - though the polish will reduce any slight differences.
