World war bayonet and medals restoration ?

I have my great grandfathers bayonet and medals from world war 1, unfortunately they weren't really looked after I would like to have them restored a bit if possible so I can make a display case and put them out.

Anyone know of someone or company that deals with this kind of thing? I am not expecting the bayonet to be perfect as it is in a state, maybe just blasted to tidy a bit and actually resemble what it is.

Hello, I would leave that as it is , Just give it a good dose of Renaissance Wax like the British Museum use and wipe off excess, Same for the medals depending what metal ?

The medals need the ribbons replaced the metal fortunately is ok. If the bayonet was damaged from the war I would leave it, but its from being in a shed so think it would be nice to have it look a bit more itself and how he kept it.

Replacement ribbons are available.
Anyone who deals in medals usually have them.
I think I got mine off ebay.

Give it a light clean with a scotchbrite wheel.
It will take the surface off and not too much metal.
Then do it with a wire wheel and remove some more rust and, as said, wax it.
Or, just do it with a wire wheel in a drill.
You will never remove the pitting.

The pitting is quite bad, part of the reason I haven't risked touching it myself. Figured I'd see if their were any specialists about for this kind of thing. Have kind of looked over the years but finally want to move it up the task list and get it done. Cheers
