Wild fires

We have a good many members north of the border and a good few in France, not sure about Spain. It’s difficult getting my head around the magnitude of these wild fires but to those affected I truly hope you’re keeping safe. My thoughts are with you all.

A long way away from the mega-fire fortunately,
but it's really impressive and sickening what has happened already this summer. Fontainebleau is over but you'd not expected them so far up north up to now. To top that the dry summer is not nearly over.

So much damn idiocy that started up the French ones too. then the wind fans it up so much .

Frightening ones around Bordeaux and Madrid.
The south of Italy is ablaze too.

People really need to be made aware of the dangers when vegetation is so dry: a simple spark from a grinder can start it up, and obviously fag-ends.
Not to mention mentally sick arsonists!
So for extinguishing the one in Scotland.

I find it interesting to see the areas with the highest potential risk. Germany looks like a tinderbox in areas.

And so it is.
The "tinderbox" has moved a long way up towards the North in recent years, no longer just around the Mediterranean.
People and authorities need to take better precautions, and awareness campaigns are necessary in places where most will be taken by surprise when a wildfire starts (eg Scotland, Ireland , Brittany last year, etc).

People living in the Cairngorms are saying the officials were way too slow,makes you wonder about the people in high places,bit like Essex Fife service senior officers parked 2 fire engines and 2 cars near a fertiliser store on Friday, the store blew up,so did the vehicles,

Hello, I did wonder how the fire started or if they had sprinklers as Farm fertiliser is very combustible, Well known for making bombs

We are 80 miles from the big one to the SW of Bordeaux, but yesterday we got the smoke! We had to stay indoors with the doors and windows shut. We have had no meaningful rain since the end of May/beginning of June and the temperatures are much higher than previous years. Arsonists and carelessness are a factor, but it is the changing climate (for whatever reason) that is making the situation worse.

It would be nice to think the risk would reduce soon, but we’re due to go over 40°C again on Wednesday. This is no longer “Only Summer”, and hasn’t been for a couple of years here.

As a little measuering stick: The area had no cicadas when we moved here, three or four years ago we started to hear them, now we have cicadas.
This can only be for one reason as Cicadas don’t watch or read propaganda. The climate has changed enough for them to expand their range

I think the the observation on the Cicadas is the most telling, we need to gear up folks,anybody caught fire starting, or idiots with fireworks, barbecues,etc, really gets it in the neck,
No more pussy footing around, and stupid judges who are not reacting properly,

It was the same here yesterday and we live about 190 miles from the main fire south of Bordeaux. It smelled like burning and we didn't see the sun, the sky was almost yellow as on your first pic.

Totally trivial in the overall scale of things but my wife & son were due to be at a major event at Le Grand Parquet near Fontainebleau last week (dog agility European Championships) - this was (quite rightly) cancelled on safety grounds just before the start. My son grabbed a last-minute holiday in Spain with a buddy from Team GB instead - hoping they're not affected there! Other competitors from further afield (USA etc.) had already arrived before the cancellation was announced. The World Championships in September are being held in Finland this year, which will hopefully be OK!

Hoping everyone in the affected areas stays safe.

My son competed in Finland 4 years ago at the Junior World Championships - nice place but quite a long (and expensive) journey!

It looks as though the Cairngorms are in for a good soaking today, great news for them. The post-apocalypse pictures we are seeing on the news from Western France are appalling with no respite in sight. Thankfully no reports of loss of life, full marks to the emergency services.

Its nothing like the scale of what is happening in Europe, but just half a mile from my house we had a biggun yesterday. And this is the 2nd in as many weeks after a stand of conifers went up and took out the electricity lines too.
