Hunting Wild duck flight

So even though it was blowing a hooley ,my mate and I went duck flighting on my pond I feed .Arrived at 1600 ,set a few deeks and waited in the ditch for things to happen .
I took my old semi auto ,why I don’t know but I’d cleaned it thinking it would behave .I have another but decided to give the Franchi a spin out .Big mistake tbh .Fired the first shot and bagged a mallard as the light dropped only to have the semi jam solid.I had to strip it down in the half light to extract the cartridges and then reassemble as a single barrel ,awkward and not what I wanted but still managed 5 myself .4 drakes and a duck .Had wigeon come in but I fluffed the shot in the dark .Mate also bagged 5 ,all green head drakes .
My favourite eating wild fair and can’t wait to tuck into a brace Monday eve .
Would have had double the number if the gun wasn’t playing up tbh .

Tonight was the ideal conditions to bag a number of duck for eating but the gun or rather my choice of it from 3 12 bores let me down .
It’s now on the transfer list to give away for free to someone with the know how to get it to shoot proper .Its a 3 inch magnum semi that I don’t think likes the 2 1/2 inch 5’s in non lead carts I have .

Hi Foxdropper. Still a nice few ducks for the table, even though the gun was playing up....Nothing worse, I bet you were kicking yourself...I stick to a double barrel these days myself... And agreed, wild mallard are my absolute favourite eating.

And that is exactly why I got rid of my semi auto (SX3) bloody thing jammed at all of the most inappropriate times, and now only have O/U’s.

I've had a few auto's over the years, never had any problems with Beretta's, I've still got two Beretta auto's and they're as reliable as a reliable thing that you can always rely on. Some of the other brands not so.

Mine spent more time travelling backwards and forwards to BWM in Oxford until I finally cried enough and dumped it back on the RFD’s counter and demanded a full refund.
Seems to be the luck of the draw with auto’s once you’ve established the right cartridge weight, manufacturer etc and don’t deviate.

Yerr, they can be fussy mate. That said, my A400 Xtreme will cycle anything from 24 gram 2 inch to 63 gram 3:1/2 inch. Amazing gun and it's never jammed even once. Not the cheapest of auto's though....

My ATA is pretty good at the not fussy scenario .Currently on someone else’s ticket but coming back my way soon .
