Why multi spectral doesn’t do it for me regardless of brand

So the hype on this has been quite big .. but here’s why it doesn’t do it for me ..
So this is from my point of view which is sub 12 farm yard ratting 🐀 … using thermal spotter and nv

We all know It’s very important to be able to identify your critter before pulling the trigger ,

So with that in mind …why and what are the situations where even low res thermal can see something where nv can’t …
1/ a rat in the bushes
2/ a rat at a distance where you can’t see eye shine or make out its shape . (Perhaps facing the other way ) or just blending in to the black and white background.
3/ a rat which is half or more obscured by something by being behind it .

So all these situations your thermal spotter will easily ( even a low res scope ) see but potentially your nv may not … but would you pull the trigger in any of the above situations and be confident of a clean kill ? And know what it is that you just shot at .?

So these are the reasons I won’t be going multi spectral…. 😊

Kind of agree. I believe the best method is still to scan using a thermal spotter, thermal will 100% detect (but not with i.d certainty) more than nv) Once youve picked up the heat signature you can confirm i.d with the nv scope. Dont like the idea scanning using the scope thermal as your swinging the rifle around to do this. Just my opinion on the matter.

The idea of using the MS for scanning was never the intention I don’t think …

My point being the ms thermal will show where ‘something’ is but still not necessarily giving you the identity and a good clean shot

yeah, agree with that.

I think it has good potential.
I was on board before it was a product....

I fitted a spotter to gun that I could use with my left eye at the same time as the NV with my right (thread April 2023).
I know mine is a very specific use, and that video had no real ratting footage for obvious reasons, but NV is flat, black and white, 2D, representation of colours and tones that won't alight with the daylight image (black material can appear white etc.) NV itself has serious limitations when it comes to checking for other animals, background materials, and seeing more than eyeshine.

Often I have watched a rat going along, behind mesh or foliage and then be able to get a shot on with the NV, but only because I know the orientation, size and have identified the rodent via thermal first.

The first iterations have low resolution thermal but once we have more detailed thermal and have ironed out the first issues, it will be considered just another scope type.

I don't really get why people seem to get so negative, about the possibility of more information in the images (once the resolution is there).
