I've just purchased a Red Wolf with a beautiful midnight blue stock, and to fully protect it, I've ordered a hard case with a puck foam lining.
Question:- When in the case, do I have the rifle with the barrel on the right and the stock on the left (as that seems natural visually), or with the barrel on the left and the stock on the right (as that is natural to pick up being right-handed).
Thoughts please???

How do you store it? It makes sense to have the butt on the floor end if you stand it.
Most would say scope up, having the least weight/none bearing on it.
Does it fit nicely that way in?
Which way does your handle face when stored?

Enjoy answering these and 61daRrvC+yL._AC_UF894,1000_QL80_.webp find out what is best for you.

Edit
Mine usually end up this way in, they are usually standing or flat open.

Well, you know, once that foam is plucked, there is no going back.
Bloody stuff- I can't stand it.

But to answer your question, jusr checked 3 guns and I have the butt on the right because I tend to swing the case with my right hand when leaning against a wall and that puts the butt at the bottom. I also have the scope towards the hinge- away from the handle... no idea why.

Yeah. Like this. But I'm revising my life choices and concerned the scope should be to the handle when carrying.

Bollox. I'm going to be worrying about this all night now. I've an odd number of guns so can't even try both equally 🥲.

Curse you 😂

It doesn't matter in mine, they're only egg foam lined so easily reversed if need be. My scopes often get in the way of the handle cut-out.
Having wheels on one end also interferes with choice.

Scope away from handle, none of my rifles has ever filed a complaint about it either.

Just to confuse matters, I wouldn’t store a rifle in a case just use them for transport, everyone has there own ideas but keeping a rifle in essentially a sponge case seems a bad idea to me.

Not the question I thought it was going to be. ..
Convention has it that the scope is nearest the case handle and the underneath of the gun stock is nearest the hinges to stop the weight if the gun resting on the scope, but it doesn't look cool.
If the case has wheels and your drag it the keep the barrel pointing down towards the wheels in case of ND.

you know that is a odd question
i am right-handed and after thinking about it all my rifles are in hard cases to same way
butt stock to the right and i think the reason is that is the way we pick them up
a right-handed person could never pickup the rifle well the other way around

Scope to the handle to avoid it getting knocked.

The theory I was told as to orientation, was if you drop the case what takes the impact ?
Scope always to handle 👍

If it's shadow foam it doesn't matter 😀

Same here, if you are carrying it and drop it / put it down heavy, the rifle’s weight isn’t pushing down on the scope and mounts. Agreed with the shadow foam, but still do it that way…

One I did myself…

Panthera came like this, and so left it but will check if I can twist around 180 degrees next time I see it now. Edit, not without having that cutout near the handle replicated.

Does it matter !

I've always put the barrel on the left and scope away from handle but, having just heard the reason for the scope
being next to the handle i might change how i pack it away, my brother always packs his rifle the other way round and it is bloody annoying when it comes to topping up with air, then again he is a kack handed lefty. :giggle:

I mostly use gun bags/slips but the cases I do own are face down flat with the scope by the handles so when you pick up there is no weight on the scope, if standing up, the stock end would be on the floor end. Scope always by the handles so however you store no weight on it whether using case or bags. I prefer cases but they do take up a lot of room!
