Just need some peanuts now 👍

I made a thing, knocked up a butt spacer/extension out of some scrap in the garage,
had been planing to do it out of Maple but couldnt easily source any yet, so thought Id make a template in the mean time, didnt turn out bad at all and fits me so much better! 😊
Other than lots of hand sanding hardest part was finding some new longer screws with heads that would fit into the butt pad, lucked out and had some in ‘that’ screw box in the draw.
Still needs some sort of oil’ing but will be fine for now.

On an HW30 by the look of things? I have just such a thing on my to do list of shooting projects.

Today I did some bipod modifications. Those chinese accutac copes have nice legs but the swivel lock is PITA and the Picatinny attachment doesn't work properly. So I added ARCA/Picatinny mounting and lever type swivel lock to one of those V9 bipods. Total cost about 50 eur + some time machining it. The color matches nicely my coyote Tikka TAC A1. Now I just need to figure out what type of pads I want for it.

After a bit of machining and welding bits from my scrap bin I have just finished making a windicator. I have made it with adjustability in mind. So its easy to add a bigger or smaller paddle to tune the sensitivity to the wind, and you can add a streamer to the end. Will take it up the club tomorrow and see if they would like it for the outdoor range.

What a tromendous thread, so many talented folk about.

Here's my effort from earlier, I required some UIT T nuts for a hamster that I am making.

They are 7075 aluminium (not ideal as they will mark when wet but whatever). Turned down in the lathe and then had their wings clipped in the mill.

As a noob, I just found this thread. I spent a LOT of time last night and this morning reading it.

As an engineer, I love most of the stuff on here. Most of my career has been racecars, military vehicles, and large scale drones. I’m a toolmaker by trade really, but only have access to some machinery that is more toy like now… I do have a 3D printer and Solidworks skills though, and may things I would have machined a few years back I will just print now.

I also play bass & guitar and have built modified a few, so I love seeing what you guys are making in wood too!

And you leather guys…. Awesome stuff. Working with that kinda stuff is something I wouldn’t even consider, it’s a real art, and my engineering brain struggles to comprehend working with those kinds of materials.

Well here we go again, another weird and wonderful stock has landed in my lap so a new project looms. I saw it on eBay and bought it on the spot. It's a one off alloy/carbon design intended for benchrest use, originally made to fit an Anschutz action. It's beautifully made with a laminate grip and cerakote finished alloy parts. I already have a .22 Walther Polytwist barrel blank to use.
The stock design makes it difficult to use a forward mounted cylinder or bottle so I'm going to make it CO2 powered with the option of tethering to a regulated tank.

Made the most of a bit of free time this morning and fired up Tinkercad and the 3D printer to have a go at making a sidewheel for the Vector Optics Orion Pro Max that's on my Katran... After a couple of trial runs, I ended up with this. I'm rather chuffed with myself! 😁

Added last Sundays car boot find, a Vector Optics 30mm tube, scol-14 Sentinel 6-25x50 side focus IR ffp to my Snowpeak apt1000 .177.

Sighted in at the farm this morning at 30 - 40 yards on 12 mag.

Then set up where I expected targets and despite the gusty breeze needing a bit of Kentucky windage 4 targets hit at 30 and 40 yards.

Best £40 I ever spent, love car boots (y)

Not made, but after explaining to a colleague who has moved to Norfolk 🤷🏼‍♂️, how I restore the various blacked bolts on our Pro PA Speakers, he asked if I could do some for him as he wasnt confident in tackling it! I agreed, expecting 20 or so bolts, he sent this!

A bit more than my bench wire wheel is normally used for 😳
A quick soak in Hydrochloric acid solution

And we get this

Rinsed in clean water
20260422_161953.webp
, then straight into the Koldblak tank
20260422_165611.webp

Then another rinse in water
20260422_165619.webp
before going into an overnight oil soak
Heres a before and after side by side, the rest are soaking in a half gallon of mineral 2 stroke oil for the night
😁👍

I tend to use a hot ultrasonic cleaner with various standard chemicals to clean rust and crap off of things like that. Finished by a oil bath. Works for most things but not everything.

I dont have an ultrasonic bath, I dont usually use acid, it was only because of the volume that I tried it, very quick, probably took less than half an hour to de rust all the bolts and get them in the Blacking solution, must be over a kilo of bolts, it took over 2 litres of oil to cover them in a bucket!
