Thanks folks. Just joining as I have discovered my old .22 BSA Super Meteor Mk 5. It was a 13th birthday present from my late father when I was a kid. Did a bit of gun oil down the barrel and 2 drops in the cylinder, cocked/loosened off the actual half a dozen times, dropped in a new breech seal and shot 5 pellets down the barrel - it hadn’t been shot in nearly 30 years!
The old girl was still giving just over 9 ft-lbs, when I did the best of 10 with a chrono, which was amazing! She’s now in bits waiting for spares as the piston spacer was a soft as cheese, the o-ring was a bit flat edged and there was lots of gooey-gunk inside the cylinder.
I’ve still got the original box from December 1979 and a BSA Mk IV 4x20 scope. So it’s proper vintage set up that is nearing 45 years old. If I can get her back to shooting at 10ft-lbs again, I’ll be proper happy.
