Hi Group I've been shooting air guns starting from age of 7 now 67 . I grow up in Southeastern Ky . I spent a lot of time in the woods growing up . Out of all the guns I used to hunt squirrels and rabbits I preferred the air gun . I got my first adult air rifle in 87 it was RWS model 45 . I put a tasco japan made AO 3x9 x50 with the raised turrets on it . I spent a lot of time making a click chart chart . I used the front parallax focus to get my distance that I marked off on the bell .
No one I knew used a air gun to hunt with . At first my hunting buddy laughed at me for taking a air gun into the wood while they carried their shotguns . I would be back at the truck with my limit of squirrels from one or 2 trees while they had to walk the entire hill side just to get their limit . After a few times of this they were not laughing anymore . I showed them how it was done and they could not believe the accuracy and power of the .177 pellets . It took a while but a few of my buddies got a airgun too.
Years later when the internet was available I found out the way I setup my scope to the gun was the same way field target shoots set up their guns
With the same bunch of hunting buddies I would take my pump up air pistol .20 cal Sheridan H pistol to kill frogs while they used a stick with a fork on the end . We would go around the ponds on a jon boat spotting bull frogs . I had a pistol scope with a flash light on top of the scope and had the cross hairs set for close range 5 foot distance . By the time they got one frog I had 5 or 6 ready to pick up . They soon had a setup like mine .
During this time I found a Daisy 717 10 meter air pistol in my local hardware store . It wasn't pumping air because it set in the store for so long and I got it for 40 dollars . I changed the seal and it shot great . I heard that Ky was having a 10 meter air pistol match in the up coming Blue Grass games, this was in 1987 . I got the gun and started practicing in my basement, 3 months later I was shoting in my first match . I ened up winning 2 years in a row . I have been shoot ever sense .
I upgraded my 10 meter air pistol to a IZ 46m . in the mid 90's .
I wanted to streach out the distance of my shooting the air rifles so I added a bigger scope 10x40x50 and a HHA speed dial that is used on crossbows to change the angle of the scope . It turns out it works great for air guns . With my Hatsan 125 snipper springer 22 cal . I found out I could tilt my scope enough to keep the pellets on a mildot out to 300 yards with out adjusting the turrest so I could keep it optically centered for better accuracy . For the last 5 years I've been playing around with a pcp and night vision scope for Coyote hunting . I went with the hatsan Hydra in 22 cal to start off with along with the Sight Mark night vision/day time scope . I had a custom ring dial made to fit around the focus ring of the scope so I could get the distances of the targets at night . So far its working great . At age 67 I'm still having lots of fun shooting my airguns . I'm glad to see that more and more people are shooting airguns . Thanks for adding me to the group .
