That can depend on the barrel its compatibility with the pellet as some may work more efficient or less efficient than others in any given bore.
Some bores might need the barrel length to make the speed.
A shorter say 12 inch vs a 18 inch barrel has a slight time advantage its 1 to 2 milliseconds no more, an advantage in barrel harmonics in the shorter and thus more rigid barrel the amptitude might be of more benefit in theory and yet even that can be imediately negated by the longer barrel recieving appropriate dampening via a weight moderator bonded shrouding of suitable mass. whatever you choose.
The whole springer is a big tuning fork how you go about taming vibrations or controling the effect of any vibrations and harmonics of the shot cycle and how it acts in the overall gun is in fact real tuning, there is more ways to tame these shall we term them negative vibes LOL! than just piston mass and spring pre load etc. Mass in the right places around the gun can have similar effects to the overall performance x mass off the moving piston has, its just going about it from a diferent direction and yet arriving with the same or similar sum of its performance. Springers are real simple tech yet its all a balancing act to make it all work in harmony. No one aspect like say the barrel length conundrum is the answer all by its self its about matching/ tuning it all to make it work to the best of its efficiency quite how you go about this is not set in stone and what route you chose ..subjective.

In my experience a 16” barrel is around optimum for muzzle energy but that could fluctuate with internal setup

Muzzle flip, pellets travel time and harmonics aside, surely a longer barrel is advantageous for open sights? In my mind the longer distance between rear and foresight would reduce deviations in sight alignment.

The stock is just a standard 95 stock with different chequering/etching, an adjustable comb and and adjustable butt pad.

They’re good, but feel noticeably heavier than the current standard stock.

I agree about the moderator on the K version, even with a short(ish) mod it makes the 95 a looooong gun.

Not about speed, brother, it's about balance, ( pointabilty is not balance). The extra inches steady the aim, offhand, but unless you shoot both long & short barrels offhand ( if at all) you'd never know ...
The HW 35 is a brilliant offhand rifle.

I bought a brand new HW95k .177 standard stock, can't say what it shot like new as same evening I bought it I stripped it gave it a deburr, internal polish and Abbey lube and dumped the factory top hat.

I then switched barrel out to an HW500 mm open sight barrel.

One word sublime, best break barrel I've ever owned, particularly superb in a standing offhand stance.

With the original barrel, scoped and BR it would one hole group at 30 yards all day long.

Only sold it as old hands had trouble with loading the tiny lightweight JSB pellets. Parting with it still hurts to this day, only HW I'd buy again.

Look online for the HW85 there's a UK RFD that sells them, can't remember the name.

I know they weren't official Hull Cartridge imports.

Not sure how RFD ordered them whether under 12ftlb or RFD did that themselves.

Just had a look and they no longer list it
They used to supply parallel / grey imports, but now I believe buy from Hull Cartridge, which saw their cheaper prices jump into line with other sellers

I reckon the only way you'll get the 85 now, is to import one, which does carry risk

Just done quite a lot of mid range pellet testing mine prefers in order air arms 5.51, Barracuda 15s,bisley long range golds,Hades.
