I have a Sekonda automatic self-winder that i was bought as a 21st present, never ran really well and eventually stopped altogether. Looked at prices for cleaning and repairs, and I could buy a replacement for significantly less than it would cost to get it repaired. But it wouldn't be THIS watch.
There used to be a great little trad shop near me about 25 years ago - repaired watches (got my grandads WW2 bring back going) and did cobbling - propper leather soles et al but its now a Christian bookshop. My Grandad apprenticed as a watchmaker in the 30's and served in the RAF as an instrument mechanic in the western desert, he used to do all his own watch repairs till his hands and eyes gave out.
What's the going rate for a good clean and repair these days? Wouldn't even mind someone talented who does it as a hobby having a crack at it.
