Was anyone tempted by the Holt's auction?

The Holt's sealed bid auction ended yesterday. I think it was over 200 air weapon (non-FAC) lots. Did anyone succumb to temptation? Personally, never having tried the sealed bid format, I had a dabble with a few items, but was only successful with one; a Diana Model 5 pistol. I'm just hoping no forum members pipped me to my other choices :LOL:.

Always have a dabble, but am seldom successful unless I go many many many times over the estimate! Tried on the two nice Theoben rammers there this time but missed both. :( Can have a bit more luck with FAC items sometimes if you're going against RFD's rather than individuals who need a spare slot.
It's an odd sale type as if you do get something you're always left wondering just how much more than the next interested party (if there was one) you ended up paying!

I didn’t but I’m now annoyed as the two items I’d have bid on didn’t sell!!
I was also planning on doing a ridiculous low bid which would have won 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😢😢😢😢😢

Put a bid in on three lots, but all sold for more than I bid, so nothing this time.

@Navarone you may see them pop up on a fixed price sale shortly, I have purchased bits from Holts like that, if they don't sell on the Sealed Bid auctions.

And goes to prove it is always worth putting a silly bid in.
:)

Potentially more annoyingly it was because I forgot a little bit…🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ yea I will see what they’ve got them to buy it now for…

I was tempted to put on a bid for the BSF55 in 177 but I've recently picked up two guns. Plus with additional costs it can add up. Still tempted though!

The trouble is people go silly, some of the Rapids went for much more than they’re worth when you factor in after costs.

I bid on a leaking 20 Rapid, I knew exactly what it would cost me outright, what the most expensive repair might be and how much it was worth, it actually sold without fees and repair for what the value was working and in good condition.

Andy might message you about a couple I’m looking at

Not recently, but I have bought from there before.

Amongst other things I picked up a MK2 Air Arns S200 for £120, a Remington Wingmaster for £150 and a second Wingmaster for a oner.

I have bid on a lot more stuff over the years and won some, but those 3 are the ones I am happiest with.

Usually the Buy It Now is the lower estimate, plus the 30% in fees, so equivalent to you putting in the very lowest on the Sealed Bid.

Stuff is now up, but there is 63 pages to browse through...

Ahh I never realised that, so you aren’t actually allowed to put in a bid of 1.30£ or something very stupid. There’s a lowest amount allowed?

I usually have a flick through the sealed bids and if there is anything that takes my fancy and starts off cheap then I will put on a bid. If I don’t win so be it 🤷🏻‍♂️. I then have a look at the unsold bids, this time something tickled the old brain cells and that was a Webley Vulcan that is appears to be a mk2/3 action but in a mk1 stock. Nothing odd there then I hear you say but this stock I am 99.9% certain is walnut but a standard shape with no checkering. I thought the only walnut ones they did deluxe ones 🤷🏻‍♂️……..dom

Yes i’ve bought from them several times, most of those through the sealed bid auctions and once via the aftersale.
I’ve also bid in the main auction but always been pipped at the post, probably because that was for rarer specials or where the guide price was optimistically low.
Be careful to not follow my error, one of those purchases was putting silly low bids in for three lots of old shotties. I assumed i would be outbid but might just get lucky on one. After the auction i got an email with the invoice for 6, 3 & 2 shotguns for under a ton all up. Paperwork for all the transfers was a nightmare and i ended up giving away most of them!

ISTR trying to put in a low bid on a sealed bid item, and it not allowing me to put in anything below the low estimate, BICBW.

I was successful with my bids on a BSA R10 and an AA S400. Probably paid to much but I am happy. Will go collect next week.
