Love my LP2. Took ages to get one.
Feel its so underated and everyone focuses on the LP53. Anyone else still using theirs?
a masterpiece in engineering. 50yrs old and still a brilliant pistol

Excellent pistols and a vast improvement on the LP53 for target shooting. The LP2 is also the easier to keep running as the valve system just uses standard o rings, once you’ve made a tool to get the valve top off. Older ones benefit from a parachute style seal rather than the early solid type as these take up the wear in the cylinders better to keep as much power as possible, but these are still a standard Walther part.. Typically 380 fps so tend to get ragged holes in targets at 10m even using NSRA good card targets, but very stable velocity so very accurate. Use a good fitting soft pellet to make the most of the puff without adding to much friction.

You certainly like your LP2's. I am envious.

Here's my LP3 - bought used in 1982 from Beppo at BSN-Heros in Berlin. Fettled a few years back by Laurie.

Did it come with the barrel weights or did you have them made? I would imagine they slow the muzzle movement down a bit, which the standard pistol suffers from with all the weight being in your hand.

Lovely. Od love to add another to mine or the grips at least.

They do come up, the 3’s usually not working due to the valve, but they are fixable, just fiddly. My LP2 and the 3 with the plastic grips both turned up as boxes of bits, the LP2 I had to re finish the frame and barrel hence the slightly more crackle finish on it than anything else. The 3 I did a whole post on!

I got mine out a few weeks ago, Cocked and dry fired once then cocked again and the compression had gone, Looks like i'll be buying a seal kit!!

Could do with buying a barrel release lever as mine was broken when I bought it, Still works though (y)

This 53 still shoots well but the rearsight elevator screw is kaput, I really ought to get around to repairing it as i've had the bits for long enough!, I've a better sight too than the rubbish old Gamo one!

John..
With the LP2, does the air come out of the barrel when you compress the air (valve seals) or is there no pressure on the lever? (Piston seal). To strip one down is no problem other than the valve cover that you will need to make a wrench for. I used a flat angle grinder spanner, made a paper template of the cover holes by rubbing a pencil over the cover then stuck that onto the handle, punched and drilled to make the holes. I then used 3 drill bits through the holes into the cover and it undid quite easily. If you do this first you can use the hammer to knock the valve bits up (and out maybe so hold it so you can catch them).
If it’s the piston you will need to strip it to know what you currently have anyway and go from there. Good luck.

Beppo had them spark-eroded from 4010 stainless [silver part] and a spare lump of tungsten carbide [the other part]. As a result of all this 'out-there' weight there is no detectable movement in firing. It feels utterly 'dead'.

John..

I greatly envy your barrel weight! In all my years of looking I've never found one.

John..

That'll fix it! NEVER dry-fire a springer mechanism like this - it's a sure-fire air-gun killer.

Hi, There's no resistance at all, I think I need to order a new piston seal, Thanks for your help 👍😎

The barrel weight came fitted to the pistol, I was lucky that my brother in law was talking to one of his mates, Airguns came up and he told him that I collect airguns so he said he had one I could have, He actually gave me another one, An Air Arms Khamsin, Both needed work, My bro in law brought them for me!!

Just remembered, I also bought a Shinsung Career from him as well!!😊

As already said, It's a pneumatic gun so no harsh slamming of pistons, I do it with all my pumpers just to ensure they aren't sticking with dried lube, I always leave a pump or two in the multi pumps to keep a little pressure on the valves too 👍

John 🙂
